Ask NerdGirl: 2 Gmail Accounts, How to Get 2.2, Hero Always Going Home, Texts Freezing Ally, and HDMI Out on EVO!
Aug 2, 2010 8:11 PM –
Hello out there! Again, a gap in articles…I know. However, when you see all the changes coming soon to our family of websites, you will understand!
I have an HTC Incredible and would like to add a second Gmail account so I can use it for Google Talk without giving up my Gmail identity (since I use my name a my Gmail user name). It looks like I may have to delete my primary account and add it back. Is there a better way to do this? Thanks and you’re the awesomest!
What I do on my phone is I use my personal Gmail account with the normal phone setup and then use my work email, which is also a Google email account, with the built in Email app. That way it keeps them separate, but I still get both and I don’t have to change any settings with the phone.
When android 2.2 Froyo is available, will my phone get an update invitation or how do I go about downloading and installing it?
It depends on which phone you have. Some carriers and companies will send it OTA (over the air). If this is the case, you’ll get a pop-up saying that there is an update available and it will walk you through the process. Other carriers and companies will want you to update using a computer. Usually you will get a message saying that it is available and where you need to go to get it. On that page on the computer, it will have all the files you need as well as complete instructions on how to complete the update.
I’ve recently switched from a Palm Centro to the Android Hero, and one of the most frustrating problems I’m having is that when the screen goes to sleep or I turn it off with the power button, the Hero defaults back to the main page when I wake it up again. This ranges from annoying to infuriating:
When you’re in the middle of writing a text message, it will be lost.
When you’re using Google Maps to navigate, you need to reopen the app and wait for several seconds for it to load. Then you need to rezoom to the previous level of detail because that setting was lost as well when the maps app closed. By then, you miss your turn.
When you’re browsing, you need to reopen the browser and it opens to your chosen default home page, so that you need to navigate to get back where you were. I haven’t found any setting to make it default to the last browsed page.
That’s actually kind of odd. All the phones I’ve seen will go back to the page that you were last on when you take it out of sleep.
This looks like a specific problem with your phone. I can’t find anyone else having a similar problem. I need to ask my readers for help again. So readers, does anyone have a solution for this issue or has anyone else had this problem?
Hey nerdgirl (:
I need your help. My Droid Ally is acting up. When I get a message it says message received by:. Then it shows the number of the person I got the text message from and freezes on my screen. What should I do? Please help!
There are a few things you can try.
First, I would make sure you don’t have too many text messages. Since the Ally is a new phone, I can’t imagine this being the problem, but sometimes if you have thousands of messages it tends to freeze or slow down the phone.
Secondly, I would remove all of your contacts and then re-sync. Make sure you disable syncing before you delete the contacts from you phone so it doesn’t sync and erase your data completely. It could be corrupt contact data that’s causing this issue.
Thirdly, if the above two don’t solve your problem, I would do a factory reset of your phone.
If none of these work, you may have a faulty phone. I would go back to where you purchased it, explain your problem, the steps you’ve taken, and ask for an exchange.
Can I play a power point of show my screen besides movies and pictures through the HDMI port on my new Sprint HTC EVO 4G???
It seems like, at the moment, the EVO can only display pictures and movies shot with the phone itself, and some people can get YouTube to display as well. I currently am testing the EVO and have similar results. I’m hoping in time that there will be updates pushed out that will allow you to do much more with the HDMI on this phone. For the time being, I see it as more as a novelty as something actually productive.
