Backbreaker Football is an intense arcade football game. Score touchdowns by juking and spinning your way to the endzone! (Note: may not run on Android early devices, e.g. G1, Hero)
Backbreaker is “Brilliant” – EDGE Magazine.
Pros & Cons:
- Awesome 3D graphics
- Fun & addictive accelerometer controlled game
- Can get very repetitive; just juke and score, would be cool if you can defend too
- Not multi-touch enabled
Backbreaker Football is a 3D accelerometer controlled game where your goal is to get to the end zone by juking (dodging) as many defenders trying to tackle you and racking up points along the way. The 3D graphics are amazing and shows the level of gaming Android phones are capable of handling (Note: geared towards higher end Android phones and stores an additional 15MB in phone’s on-board memory). The game is a lightweight version of NaturalMotion’s Xbox game of the same title, plucking the play mode called “Tackle Alley”.
There are several difficulty levels and game types including Challenge and Endurance with 80 levels to complete, plus you can customize your player. Points are scored by misses, near miss, tricks, showboat, zone, time, attempt and completion bonuses.
How to Play Backbreaker Football
Tilt the phone forward to run then left or right to run in that direction. On-screen controls starting from left to right: the showboat icon with stars light up when you’ve past defenders, slows you down making it possible for defenders to catch up and tackle you but racks up bonus points. Then there’s left spin, left/right juke to side-step defenders, and fast run represented by the icon with the lightning bolt.

Fun Factor & Addictive:
Backbreaker Football is not Madden, so please don’t have those expectations from it however it is a fun and addictive game to waste some time with. The only major drawback is the repetitive nature of the game. Though watching your player get plummeted is good humorous fun too, they don’t call this “back-breaker football” for nothing, especially in slow-mo instant replay. 😀
As boasted the 3D graphics are simply amazing with attention to detail as the angle of view is just behind the player immersing you into the action.
Accelerometer, Vibration & Sound:
There is an excellent mix of realistic sound effects, background crowd noise, vibration when tackled, along with on-screen controls to assist the accelerometer!
