Calendar++: Calendar & Tasks. A great replacement for Google’s app
Sep 20, 2013 11:43 AM –
Calendar++ is a calendar replacement app that essentially takes Google’s own Calendar application and gives it extra functionality. For example, it integrates with Google Tasks, so now tasks are easily accessible and can be highlighted in your calendar. It enhances Google Tasks too, by allowing you to sort and show all your lists. There are multiple widget options, a more dynamic interface and increased usability. If you use Google Calendar but want it to do ‘more’, then this is the app to check out.

- Great user interface!
- Simple to use!
- Event viewing could be better.
Calendar++ is a cool Google Calendar replacement/enhancement application that helps you become even more aware of your events and helps you be more productive. For those of you who aren’t aware, when I’m not writing about Android, I lecture in sociology and criminology. With writing, preparing lectures, marking, administration… in addition to normal family stuff like medical appointments and school events… life can be pretty busy at time. I therefore rely on my calendar literally every day.
Until recently, this had primarily been Google Calendar. Other family members would also use the app and we could all sync our timetables and know what we’re up to and ensure everything is covered. However, I then stumbled across Calendar++. This is just like Google Calendar, but with a few useful little enhancements. It essentially syncs with Google Calendar anyway, so all your appointments are already uploaded, but then it does even more.
Firstly, it integrates Google Tasks. Your tasks can be included in your calendar if you wish, which can help you prioritise your day like never before. The app also includes additional widgets. So, you can get a separate Tasks and Calendar widget. If you follow multiple calendars, each widget can be configured independently, so you can access all your events from your homescreen. There’s a ‘wide’ widget which provides a great add event margin for faster event creation. This isn’t in anyway a massive overhaul of Google Calendar’s existing functionality, but it’s just enough to make a real difference. There are little shortcuts, small, enhancements throughout… allow which make it even easier and more intuitive to use.
One thing I’ve yet to find in a calendar application is a feature where, when you are in calendar view and tap on an event, it produces a pop-up window, rather than taking you to a full event screen. Sometimes I just want a reminder of what the event is, where it’s located or any notes I’ve added. Now, this seems to be lacking from every other calendar I’ve tried- including Google Calendar- but this really would make the app special (for me anyway!)
Calendar++ – Slide out side panel for easier management and navigation
Calendar++ – Calendar view
Calendar++ – Menu
Calendar++ – Event creation
Calendar++ – Re sizable
Calendar++ – Scrollable
Calendar++ – Wiget choices
I couldn’t live without Calendar++. OK, so that’s an exaggeration, but it really does help me be more productive, certainly more so than Google Calendar alone. Because it offers additional widgets, plus Tasks integration- it’s just that bit more useful.
Ease of Use:
Sometimes apps come along to enhance an existing application and just generally messes up its usability. This is definitely not the case with Calendar++. It has all the things great about Google Calendar and none of these are removed or screwed with. Therefore the app is fantastically easy to use and highly intuitive.
As mentioned, I use it every single day. My memory is quite good, but there will always be a little job or task I absolutely need to do at a set time and this app helps me make sure I do it.
The interface is pure Google. ‘Holo’ design, simple and very easy to navigate. Like I’ve deliberated, it’s Google Calendar, just with a few extra bells and whistles.
