Call Recorder Total Recall 2 has been through a few iterations in Google Play but this newer version attempts to solve most of the problems of the other apps’ demise. Right away I must inform you that it has been confirmed by the developer to work on about a dozen non-rooted phones and more than a dozen rooted phones. List of supported phones below:

If your device is in the list above you should be able to automatically record a conversation on both sides with clear audio. Files are saved within the app and you can visit it to playback conversations. Alternatively, using a file explorer app you can browse directly to the folder where recordings are saved. When on a call a small in-call recorder widget appears at the top with options to Pause/Start and Stop recording plus configuration details; Status, Format, Strategy, and File. I personally wish the Strategy configuration was more automated based on your condition and choose the best option for you. For example, since my test device was not an international version of the Galaxy S4 but an unrooted T-Mobile version, it is not supported to record in-call both ways (unless I root). However, the slight workaround is to previously set it to ‘Mic’ in the Settings menu so the call can record ambient volume of the caller on the other end and louder/clearer sound of myself. If this is not set to Mic prior then you will not have a recording in the list afterward. Alternatively, the app can be used as a voice recorder for say… classroom lectures or meetings- which uses the phone’s microphone.
If your device is supported you’ll find Total Recall 2 is loaded with settings! You can get granular with all levels of recording; such as automatically sending recording to Gmail, Google Drive, Box and Evernote. It’s important to visit the Call Recording settings prior to fully using the app and try some test calls to ensure the correct Strategy works for you. You can choose the file format (default is AMR, but MP3 & WAV formats are available too). You can even filter which calls to record (incoming vs outgoing or those from a list) plus you can even password protect recordings. These are just a tip of the iceberg in configurations!
We’ve reviewed a few in-call recording apps that promise to automatically record both sides of the conversation without being rooted but all (including this app) seem to pale in comparison to MP3 InCall Recorder & Voice. Most consumers have no clue what rooting is, and it’s difficult to explain to them that they have to do special techno things to their phone (which voids their warranty) to get an app to work properly.
