Chronus – Home and Lock widget
Oct 8, 2013 10:06 AM –
Chronus is a homescreen and lockscreen clock widget that displays the time, weather and calendar appointments. Functionality-wise, it essentially sits somewhere between the stock Android clock widget and DashClock. It’s fantastically stable, looks great and is the default clock for the hugely popular CyanogenMod ROM.
Tested on: Nexus 4
Pros & Cons:
- Simple to set up!
- Looks good!
- Combines both homescreen and lockscreen!
- Lacks functionality when compared with Dashclock.
- You have to stretch the widget to 4×4 before you see the calendar events.
Chronus is a recently released clock widget that fans of the massively popular third-party ROM CyanogenMod have been enjoying for some time now. It’s a widget that displays not only the time and the weather, but also upcoming appointments gleaned directly from your calendar. It therefore places all this information on your homescreen for fast and convenient perusal.
The app is really easy to set up. Firstly you place the widget on your homescreen and it will automatically present you with a menu. You can enter and adjust the clock & alarm, weather panel and calendar events display. Each has a smattering of options, from aesthetic features through to units, timestamps and which calendars to select and display. You can even choose whether to have an analogue or digital display, so it gives you these kind of options too. It’s simple to tweak and very intuitive.
The clock displays on both your homescreen and, if you set it, your lockscreen too. I found they compliment each other well and is an enhancement of the default clock widget. With the customizations available, it’s certainly a useful little app and, while it clearly doesn’t offer as many features as the likes of DashClock and its infinite number of add-ons, it’s still a handy, uncomplicated and user-friendly widget. It’s certainly worth a look if your default clock widget of choice doesn’t quite cut it.
Chronus – Analogue
Chronus – Clock with weather
Chronus – Clock with weather and appointments
Chronus – Settings menu
Chronus – Clock and alarm settings
Chronus – Calendar events settings
Chronus – Weather panel
Chronus – Update interval
The app can display the time, the weather and your upcoming calendar events. It’s basic stuff, but useful nonetheless. I would have liked the ability to select weather source- it’s Yahoo! by default and I’m not convinced by it. That aside, it all performs very well and compliments your homescreen and lockscreen superbly.
Ease of Use:
Chronus is very easy to use. The simple-to-navigate menu system is very intuitive and lets you set up the widget quickly.
As an app that sits on both your homescreen and lockscreen, and one which features your upcoming events and the weather, it is an app you could find yourself using regularly, certainly several times a day if you’re a busy individual.
The interface is straightforward and uncomplicated. This makes it easy to navigate and customise.
