Cross Match is sort of a combination of the games of Scrabble and Set. In this game, a player plays against a computer opponent, each trying to create “words” from tiles placed on a rectangular grid. Each tile possesses 3 attributes: shape, color, and number. Adjacent tiles form words, which must obey the rule that all the tiles in a given word have 2 attributes in common. Words score points equal to the square of the number of tiles in the word. There are also bonus squares on the game board, which give points when a player is able to play a tile on them which matches their attribute.
Because of the squaring rule for word scores, along with the bonus points, it’s possible to see large point swings in a game, and there is a good deal of strategy involved in decided whether or not to play a particular tile.
There are two game sizes: 11×11 and 15×15. In the smaller game, each attribute comes in 4 flavors, while in the larger game each comes in 5. The larger game is better played on a tablet, due to the size of game squares, but there is a zoom function that allows it to be played on phones.
There are built in help functions, and high scores are retained. There is also a complete list of rules.
