There are many reasons why your business should have a mobile optimized presence along with the desktop version. This article focuses on a few reasons why your company should optimize now, plus a few tips to market your mobile site once implemented.
Better User Experience
If they aren’t obvious the number one should be how frustrating it is to navigate a full desktop page on a smartphone- thus leading to ‘fatigue’ from pinching and zooming causing the user to leave the webpage. Users are accustomed to using apps- optimizing your mobile website offers the same experience as using a mobile app. This involves your designer to make images and text conform to smaller screens yet be large enough to see and interact with.
Mobile Traffic Increasing
With the rapid emergence of smartphones the shift in mobile traffic has risen dramatically. On this blog focused on Android apps we have experienced nearly half of our traffic are from mobile users (smartphone & tablets).
Not Being Mobile-Friendly Will Hurt
Google noted in their blog that they will start factoring mobile friendly sites as signals of their search algorithm by April 21st. Search Engine Journal wrote an excellent guide to help prepare for the update. What does it mean is your website is not mobile friendly after the deadline? You may experience a decrease in search traffic from Google as they will favor results from other prepared sites- this could even be your competitor. Therefore it could be costly not to optimize.
Once your site has been transformed to a mobile-friendly site it’s important you market your mobile website. There are several tactics from the desktop world as well as mobile specific tips you can use such as social media, location based deals, targeting new device owners, or even text message opt-in marketing.
