Photo Effects by RadiumOne – a cool photography & editing app

Photo Effects by RadiumOne is a cool photography and editing application. It features a number of neat filters, the ability to crop, add borders, text and loads of sticker options. Above all it’s easy to use and offers plenty of basic functionality.
Price: Free, plus In-app Purchases
Tested on: Nexus 4
Pros & Cons:
- Easy to use!
- Nice filters!
- Good range of basic editing tools!
Photo Effects by RadiumOne is a nifty little photo editing tool and provides plenty of options for budding snappers. When you open the app you can choose between taking a picture yourself or using a picture from your gallery. Once you have a picture, you view a dashboard-style interface with, initially, the crop function. Here you can either crop the image as you see fit or use one of the templates provided. Once complete, press ‘Next’.
The following screen gives you separate tabs for stickers, filters, borders and text. There are several sticker packs to choose from, most of which are free to additionally download in-app. There are a few exclusive packs however that require in-app purchases. Now, these were great, but I wasn’t convinced they offered particularly great value. For example, you can buy the hats pack- which features just 11 varieties of hat sticker, for $0.99 (£0.65). Each other paid-for pack cost the same so to fully unlock the features it might be a little expensive. It’s a nice option, but there is certainly better value in the Google Play Store, for example, PicSay Pro or PicShop Pro.
Filters, stickers, border and text entries are all very simple to add and the interface works well. With each selection there is usually a thumbnail image. This, however, doesn’t always show up and the selection isn’t consistently responsive. This is a minor thing really, but it does affect overall user experience.
Once you have finished editing, you can save and/or share your creation with any of the various social networks you use. There are shortcuts for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or email, but you can open up others with an additional tab. Posting is fast and easy but I wasn’t convinced by the overall picture quality. The resolution appeared quite low compared to other apps. This isn’t to say the app is not worth playing with, but the results are not as good as other applications.

For quick and funky snaps- with the ability to quickly add neat little edits, Photo Effects by RadiumOne is pretty useful.
Ease of Use:
The app is extremely simple to use and mostly quite intuitive. I did find some elements are little unresponsive, but this might easily be resolved in an update.
This will depend very much on the user. There are certainly better editing apps out there, but I think the more filters and options you have available to you, the better. Because it is a breeze to use, you might find yourself trying the app out more often.
Unresponsive parts aside (this is quite minimal), the interface is functional and simple to navigate. It’s not the most beautiful app out there, but it’s far from the worst and looks well designed and implemented.
