Random remote widget freezing your Android? Update or remove Peel Smart Remote app

Has a random remote widget been crashing or freezing your Android? Either update or remove Peel Smart Remote app to fix it!
There have been a lot of rants lately about this and I personally experienced this myself when I had to restart my device and on the lock screen in the top right corner appeared this random remote widget- when clicked it would freeze my phone. It’s weird as you can still see the screen but any touches render no action. At most I was able to pull down the window shade.
The remedy after that is to restart the device. Some devices with detachable battery covers you can easily pull the battery- for other devices such as the Samsung Galaxy S6 you cannot. It requires you hold the Volume Down and Power button simultaneously for 10 seconds to force a restart (two button combinations may vary for different Android phones.) Once restarted do not touch the icon. You can either go to Google Play and update Peel (version 8.6.5 or higher) or uninstall the problematic update (version 8.6.4) and even disable the app. We love Peel however if careless updates will roll out to a large number of users then it’s no longer needed.
