My Soda Clock Live Wallpaper – customize your Android with themed clocks
Feb 26, 2013 2:47 PM –
My Soda Clock Live Wallpaper is a customisable live wallpaper application that displays a themed clock on your Android homescreen. Live wallpaper clocks can be very useful in that there is no homescreen space taken up with widgets, etc. The app comes with a flurry of cool themes and animation options.
Price: Free or $0.99 for the full version
Tested on: Nexus 4
Pros & Cons:
- Saves homescreen space!
- Lots of themes!
- Highly original!
- Still a very heavy ‘theme’ that might not suit everyone.
My Soda Clock Live Wallpaper is a kooky live wallpaper app that animates so that the numbers fill with soda to reflect the time. The app comes with 10 different themes, although there are two more in development. These range from the bright and colourful ‘Beach Fun’ to the more subdued and minimalist ‘Hive’.
There are also lots of added customisations. These include being able to alter the display, the soda effects, clock/date position and size. There are quite a few presets too, so it’s fun to experiment with. One especially cool thing is what is called the . This is where the soda tilts with the way you move your Android device.
The nature of the wallpaper itself is very original. I also like the way it is bright and heavily customisable and there are various interactive things you can do to the wallpaper. That said, I don’t think it is going to suit everyone. There are plenty of themes, but none are perhaps minimalist enough to suit the Android/Holo/Jelly Bean design.

Wallpaper, as a rule are generally just ‘eye-candy’ that make your phone look good and personalised. With Soda Clock Live Wallpaper, however, it tells you the time and date. It’s also useful because it frees up space on your homescreen. Thus it provides different design opportunities and new ways to create your own Android experience.
Ease of Use:
Like most LWP’s, it’s very easy to use. The menu system is straight forward and you can tweak the look and feel quite a lot. It doesn’t offer a preview from within the menu system, so you do have to come right out to the setting screen to see what each theme/customisation looks like properly but other than this, it’s as simple to use as you can find.
As your wallpaper, it’s an app you’ll ‘use’ whenever you use your device. With it doubling as a clock, it might be something you check out more often.
The interface is naturally very ‘themed’ when you apply the customisations. The menu is quite typical of Froyo/Gingerbread menu’s; bold, clear but a little old-school compared to Ice Cream Sandwich and ‘Holo’. You have to remember though, you won’t be using the menu system too much once you’ve set the wallpaper the way you like it.
