Translator is easy and very straightforward to use when translating one language to another. You can type or speak your translations plus hear them played back aloud. There are more than 40 languages supported. Let’s dive into the review!
Tested on: Samsung Galaxy S4
Pros & Cons:
- Very easy streamlined language translation app!
- High quality audio translations in native dialects!
- Speak or type what’s to be translated!
- More than 40 languages supported!
- Minor: when translated text is lengthy- text to speech feature does not speak aloud.
Translator is simple, offering easy translations of short phrases from one language to another. Either write text or speak the words for translating, tap a single button and voilà… it’s translated. You can hear the translation spoken back to you and the audio is crystal clear in high quality with native dialects. You can easily swap two languages or toggle any one of the more than 40 other languages included. Furthermore, you can copy translated text to the clipboard or share the text.
I do not believe I’ve completely missed these features, however, I find it misleading that the developer’s app description states, “With Translator, you can translate text files, recognize texts by camera, transcribe speeches in real time and translate texts…” These features did not exist in the version we evaluated unfortunately. Besides that, I only have minor issues with the app. For example, when you enter text that it too lengthy- such as a few sentences the text to speech feature does not speak aloud. It’s intended for short phrases. Also it would be less confusing to be able to scroll the list of languages versus only scrolling in the right side of the screen where the arrows exist.
