Wyse PocketCloud RDP/VNC. Access your PC from Phone from Anywhere!
Jun 30, 2011 9:12 AM –
Wyse PocketCloud RDP/VNC. Access your computer, files and windows apps securely from your mobile device. PocketCloud enables remote access to Windows or Mac desktops over WiFi and 3G/4G networks. Use your Android smartphone or tablet to access any file and run any application on your computers. You no longer need to carry a laptop to make an important presentation, grab a forgotten report, help a friend with a computer problem, or edit and email that spreadsheet—all while on the go.
Price: Free, $14.99
Tested on: MyTouch 3G Slide
Pros & Cons:
- You can access your computer, and work on it remotely as if you’re there, from your Android phone
- You only get one computer in the free version
- The free version doesn’t have very powerful security features, like encryption
- It only works if the computer you’re connecting to is on and available.
PocketCloud is a great tool for business people on the road. Who hasn’t realized they forgot something on the desktop at the office they need for a presentation on the road? With this app, and the client installed on your desktop, you can access that system as if you’re there and work on that computer. It’s not a perfect implementation, and I wouldn’t do a lot of heavy work on it, but for grabbing a quick file, it’s priceless. And when used in conjunction with a tool like Dropbox, it’s even more powerful for never being caught with a file on the wrong system again.
The pro version is $14.99, but it does come with a lot of extras. I’m not sure the price isn’t still too high, but for the money, in addition to the standard features, you get:
- RDP 256-bit NLA/TLS encryption
- VNC 128-bit encryption
- RDP Sound with auto-bandwidth mode
- Auto-fit and extended resolutions for RDP
- VMWare View support
- Secure Tunneling for VNC Auto Discovery
- 3rd party app integration (URL scheme)

This is a very useful tool for anyone who uses multiple systems in multiple locations and/or travels frequently. The ability to connect to a system to grab something you forgot is priceless.
Ease of Use:
To get it working, you need to install both the Android app and a client on the computer you want to connect. But once you have everything installed and connected, it’s a very fast process to connect and get what you need from your computer. The only caveat is that the computer you’re connecting to must be on to work – this isn’t cloud storage, just accessing a computer remotely.
I think this is probably going to be an app that, rather than use it all the time, will be something you don’t use often, but when you need it, it will be a huge deal and a lifesaver.
The app interface is clean and easy to use, and once you connect to your computer, you see whatever your desktop is. You can choose to show things like the background image or not, based on performance.
