XE Currency is a brilliant application for comparing currency rates on the go. It has a slick and user friendly interface to follow multiple currency rates at once, examine charts and currency rate histories.
Tested on: HTC One X
Pros & Cons:
- Follow the history of a currency over 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, 3 months or 1 year!
- Interactive graphs that give you precise values!
- Every monetary currency in the world!
- Stores last updated prices for offline conversions!
- Lacks a widget.
- Could, perhaps, do with alerts to let you know when a conversion is favourable.
Whether you work in international finance, a finance department which accesses accounts in different currencies, or perhaps just going on holiday in the near future and want to get a great deal on your exchange rate, XE Currency is a brilliant app for keeping in touch with up-to-the-minute currencies.
Many years ago I used to work for a big financial exchange company and would regularly speak with financial directors, accounts people and controllers from big companies all over the country. For the canny investor it pays to keep a close eye on exchange rates to get the most money for your pounds, dollars or euros. Additionally, anyone taking an international holiday will be aware that prices fluctuate and choosing the right moment to exchange can save you lots of money.
With these and various other uses in mind, XE Currency is a superb app for keeping dibs on currency prices. You can view and follow up to 10 different currencies in one go, and access practically any known currency in the world. The historical charts are also a good way to monitor how prices are comparing and you can go back over a year to see how currency value has fluctuated. This can all help you to determine if it’s a good time to convert your money or to wait a little while for prices to improve. With plenty of companies and banks queuing up to exchange your money for you, you will at least know whether you’re getting a good deal- or being undersold.
It’s a nice app and features a slick user interface that is easy to use. I would have liked to see a homescreen widget included and something that alerts you for when a currency hits a favourable price would be really good. These small issues aside, XE Currency is a great little app and, as a freebie, worth looking at if currency conversion is important to you or your work.

Great if you need to monitor exchange rates; whether it be for work or an upcoming holiday, there are some neat tools here to help you get up-to-date prices and exchange rates.
Ease of Use:
XE Currency is very easy to use. Live currencies are displayed on the front page of the app so you quickly see exchange rates and prices. Selecting a currency will display a historical chart which shows the fluctuations of rates historically.
This depends heavily on the user; if you’re planning a holiday you might use the app only certain times during a year, or, if you work in international finance it might be something you consult on a far more regular basis. The app is stable and responsive so will suit both.
The interface is relatively simple but smooth and easy to navigate.
