Playtable aims to be the Netflix of digital board games

At GDC I ran into a developer for Playtable, a concept table top touch screen console designed to play board games, card games, miniatures, RPGs and even video games. Instead of segregating gamers like the current landscape- this vehicle brings back that nostalgic feel of physically playing next to someone.
In the demo I saw one of my favorite board games Monopoly being played which could provide all the excitement of it yet none of the maintenance of banking with cash or physical cards. It’s not all digital as there are stickers you can place on the bottom of board pieces which can interact with the display. For example, when playing Plants Vs. Zombies you can use the miniature pieces to shoot at the advancing undead on the table top board.
The platform aims to be a publisher for other gaming developers to launch their titles. This suggests future titles can be recommended and featured. At the moment there are only a handful of compatible games and the product is in a working beta with plans to hit KickStarter this year in order to mass produce. The company plans to offer two models at launch; Basic and Pro. I was told a $299 and $599 price point respectively- with square foot coverage and internal specs increasing as the device expands.
What are your thoughts… Would you play games on the Playtable?
