Recently, League of Legends: Wild Rift opened its doors to players from regions like Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, Russia and CIS, Oceania, Taiwan, Turkey, and Vietnam. Moreover, Darius, Draven, and Wukong were released with the latest 1.1 update.

With a small map, dual-stick controls, and 15-minutes mobile-friendly match time; LoL Wild Rift’s gameplay is like any other 5v5 MOBA game. Interestingly, several champions experienced changes in their kits. Overall, the mechanics of LoL Wild Rift are similar to that of League of Legends PC.

Just like League PC, it’s essential to have a tank champion in Wild Rift as well as to absorb damage for your team in team fights. Today, we will be looking at some of the most robust tank champions in the game in the 1.1 patch.

1. Malphite, Shard of the Monolith

Malphite is one of the most versatile tank champions in League of Legends: Wild Rift as he can be played in Baron Lane, Jungle, Mid Lane, and even as a Support. Malphite’s kit includes a variety of crowd control options that can deal a fair amount of damage (if you build Ability Power Damage build with him) as well. However, building armor, health, and magic resist on him is the ideal choice. Thanks to his passive ‘Granite Shield,’ he can soak a decent amount of damage in all stages of the game. With his ultimate ‘Unstoppable Force,’ Malphite can knock up multiple enemies at once. He can even use his ultimate to escape from a bad situation. Malphite’s ultimate can be combo’ed with the ultimate of champions like Yasuo, Oriana, Braum, and Amumu.

2. Singed, the Mad Chemist

There’s a golden rule in League of Legends that ‘never chase a Singed who is trying to run away.’ Undoubtedly, Singed is the most irritating champion to play against in League of Legends: Wild Rift. He is mostly played in Baron Lane. Due to the versatility in his kit, he is an excellent champion for split pushing in the mid and late game. Surprisingly, he can also dish out decent Ability Power damage with his poison trail while being incredibly tanky at the same time. With his ultimate ‘Insanity Potion,’ Singed is granted with increased combat stats.

Go-To Summoner Spells: Flash + Ghost or Flash + Ignite

Recommended Keystones: Aftershock, Aery, or Kleptomancy (Can try it out)

Core Items: Rylai’s Crystal Scepter, Liandry’s Torment, Teleport Enchant, and Dead Man’s Plate

Best Tank Champions in League of Legends: Wild Rift

3. Jarvan IV, the Exemplar of Demacia

Often played in the Jungle, Jarvan IV is a well-rounded tank champion that is easy to play around the ally team. With his deadly combos, Jarvan IV can knock up multiple enemies or isolate a single champion in team fights. He is a robust ganking champion thanks to his combo of Demacian Standard (3rd skill) and Dragon Strike (1st skill). He can even use this combo to save himself from a dire situation.

Go-To Summoner Spells: Flash + Smite

Recommended Keystones: Aftershock or Conqueror

Core Items: Black Cleaver, Sterak’s Gage, Locket, Enchant, and Randuin’s Omen

Best Tank Champions in League of Legends: Wild Rift

4. Dr. Mundo, the Madman of Zaun

Dr. Mundo can be flexed for both Baron Lane and Jungle. The massive healing from his ultimate ‘Sadism’ makes him one of the best tanks for sustaining damage. However, his ultimate can be countered with ‘Ignite’ or by building anti-heal items like ‘Mortal Reminder’ or ‘Morellonomicon.’ Mundo can safely farm in the lane with his first skill ‘Infected Cleaver’ and hits hard even with his auto-attacks thanks to his third ability ‘Masochism.’ If the enemy team does not itemize well against a Mundo, then it’s pretty much game over for them.

Go-To Summoner Spells: Flash + Ignite or Flash + Exhaust

Recommended Keystones: Grasp of the Undying or Conqueror

Core Items: Sunfire Cape, Warmog’s Armor, Teleport Enchant, and Randuin’s Omen

Best Tank Champions in League of Legends: Wild Rift

5. Amumu, the Sad Mummy

Amumu is a strong tank champion that is best suited for the Jungle position. Due to the abilities in his kit, Amumu is considered as a powerful ganking jungler after he unlocks his ultimate. His ultimate’ Curse of the Sad Mummy’ can stun the entire enemy team at once. Amumu’s ultimate can also be used to combo with other ally champions to gain an advantage in team fights. You can go for a tanky build or Ability Power damage build on Amumu depending on the situation.

Go-To Summoner Spells: Flash + Smite

Recommended Keystones: Aftershock

Core Items: Abyssal Mask, Sunfire Cape, Spirit Visage / Thornmail, Locket Enchant, and Randuin’s Omen

Best Tank Champions in League of Legends: Wild Rift

6. Blitzcrank, the Great Steam Golem

Blitzcrank is the most played support champion in League of Legends: Wild Rift at the moment. Despite the nerfs in patch 1.0, Blitzcrank is still an ‘S’ tier support champion. Thanks to his play-making potential because of his first skill ‘Rocket Grab,’ he is still a fan favorite. He is easy to play and useful as well. One crucial hook in a team fight can turn the tide of the battle in your favor. The silence on his ultimate ‘Static Field’ is also convenient in team fights.

Go-To Summoner Spells: Flash + Ignite or Flash + Exhaust

Recommended Keystones: Aftershock

Core Items: Protector’s Vow, Zeke’s Convergence, Sunfire Cape, Dead Man’s Plate, Locket Enchant, and Randuin’s Omen

Best Tank Champions in League of Legends: Wild Rift

7. Garen, the Might of Demacia

Garen is the arguably the easiest champion to play in Baron Lane in LoL Wild Rift. The true damage on his ultimate ‘Demacian Justice’ makes Garen a threat to squishy champions in the later stages of the game. With his passive ‘Perseverance,’ Garen can regain a fair amount of health while out of combat. If you combo Sterak’s Gage with his second skill ‘Courage,’ you can be incredibly tanky on Garen.

Go-To Summoner Spells: Flash + Ignite

Recommended Keystones: Conqueror or Grasp of the Undying

Core Items: Black Cleaver, Sterak’s Gage, Teleport Enchant, Warmog’s Armor, and Randuin’s Omen

8. Braum, the Heart of the Freljord

Braum passive ‘Concussive Blows’ makes him one of the unique support champions in the game. His ability to slow/knock-up enemy champions, dash to an ally champion and the ability to block any incoming damage from projectiles makes him quite versatile. Braum excels at 2v2’s in Dragon Lane and small-skirmishes because of the abilites in his kit.

9. Nasus, the Curator of the Sands

Nasus is mostly played in Baron Lane in Wild Rift. He is a monster in the late game when he gets enough stacks on his first ability ‘Siphoning Strike.’ His ultimate ‘Fury of the Sands’ grants him increased attack range and health, and also damages enemies that are nearby him. The best thing with Nasus is that you can build a lot of different items with him. Since Nasus can be kited easily by marksmen in the late game, it is highly recommended to go full or semi-tank with him.

10. Alistar, the Minotaur

Alistar is the most dominating support champion in the game right now. The crowd control in his kit and the amount of damage he can absorb in team fights and skirmishes is the reason why he is an ‘S’ tier champion. With his third skill ‘Trample’ which is a single target stun, Alistar can also isolate an enemy champion of his choice. If you play Alistar correctly and land all your combos, then it’s over for the enemy team. Braum and Alistar are the go-to support champions in Dragon Lane.
