League of Legends: Wild Rift announces Path of Ascension event
Patch 2.1b is set to hit the League of Legends: Wild Rift servers and with it, Targon is becoming an integral part of the entire lore. The mighty Champions of Targon have descended unto the Wild Rift realm and players have a chance to unlock those heroes for free, with the likes of Leona, Diana and Pantheon released as part of the Paths of Ascension event.
The Path of Ascension event features three paths or branches – The Sun, The Moon and The War, for Leona, Diana and Pantheon respectively. Each path has been customised with objectives and the design tailored to suit the Targon Hero it is associated with, their abilities and playstyle. Players have to complete the entire path of the particular Targon Champion in order to unlock it for free. Alternatively, the newly released champions can be purchased from the store for 5500 Blue Motes or 725 Coins. Players will have until the 29th of March to complete the Path of Ascension event and grab Leona, Diana, Pantheon or all three Champions for free.
Apart from collecting these Champions, completing objectives in the Path of Ascension will yield players several rewards and Icons. Once the entire Path of Ascension is complete, players will receive a Targon Icon border as an exclusive reward.
To give an introduction to each Targon Champion, Leona is most effective as a Support in the League of Legends meta but is a Champion that can tank and thus, can act as a damage absorber or a shield for the team. Her Apex Blade allows her to initiate effectively despite being a Support and her sun-powered Flare is an ultimate that can change the look of the fight or a gank in seconds.
Diana is a pure midlaner but needs extra care and protection in the early stages of the game, due to her weakness in the early levels. Her ultimate, Moonfall is an excellent ability to be used in teamfights as this ability draws enemies close to her before dealing damage in an AoE.
Last but not the least, Pantheon is a true Warrior. Easily playable as a midlaner and in the top lane, Pantheon can be used as an effective initiator and diver as well, with his abilities being the perfect mixture of tank and initiation. His ultimate, Grand Starfall is also an AoE damage dealing ability just like Leona and Diana’s ultimates. However, Grand Starfall is also effective when used to start teamfights or find overextending enemies.
The release of the Path of Ascension event also coincides with that of new skins for Leona, Diana and Pantheon, namely Dark Valkyrie Diana, Barbecue Leona and Full Metal Pantheon. It will be intriguing to see how the introduction of these Champions and the ability to unlock them for free affects the overall Wild Rift meta.
