Speaker 1:
Let’s talk about how to land paid caster jobs. Landing opportunities, sponsorships, moments for you to shine and show your worth come in due time. It really depends on how serious you are about doing your streaming. When I first got approached with a sponsorship, I couldn’t believe myself. I was like, “How did this happen?” Then looking back at all the time, all the effort, all of the energy that I put into my stream, into my shows, I quickly realized, “Aw, man, I deserve this. I worked so hard. It’s about time someone found me and recognized me for my effort.”

That was just my first one. It came to me, luckily. Now, moving forward, how did I start actively gaining opportunities. I started attending events. I started to reach out to devs. You will be extremely surprised at how many people are just willing to just open an ear, hear what you have to offer, hear what you have to say, and more importantly, they might need you just as much as you need them. Don’t sell yourself short. Come up with a number, something you’re comfortable with, that you want to work for. You have to know your worth before you dive in bed with any type of orgs. Just know what you’re looking for, what you think is worth your time. That’s most important.

Before you get into a conversation of you’re willing to work for someone, just know what you’re worth. Getting to those conversations? You can actively seek them. I’m pretty sure I can Google up right now an indie game, new indie games, top indie games. You don’t think those guys want their games to succeed? Of course they do. Of course they want people creating content for stuff like that, for their brand new game. These guys have a passion, too. They’ve put probably all types of hours and time into their business, their brands. They want them to succeed. They want people like you to say, “These things are great. I back them. I play them. I use it.” These are just little things that you can absolutely open your own doors if you actively seek, if you actively go out there and search up places, search up orgs, search up games, you can actively seek opportunities all the time.

I had a gig where I went to a bar. It was a game bar. I was just like, “Wow. This place is epic. How sweet would it be if I did a livestream from here?” Do you think they’d appreciate that? I could potentially bring more people here. Not only that, I could host a great show here. What’d I do? I just asked someone who worked there. “Hey, could I talk to the person that runs the operation here.” Right there, bang, just like that, I was connected to the head honcho, the guy that could make the shots, make the call. “Sure, you want to do what? That sounds crazy. We’ve never tried that. Let’s go for it.” That would be an opportunity right there.

They didn’t think about it. I was thinking about it. I brought it to the table. I wanted to make it happen. It’s believing in yourself and knowing your worth, knowing what you can do. Now, when you go to these events, if you ever attend a PAX, ever attend a TwitchCon, you want to bring business cards, bring things that people can obviously reach out to you, have your emails ready, have your phone number ready. All that good stuff, because talking to these people, you don’t know how it’s going to effect you. You can meet so many guys out there that are just looking just to hire people to either do the next the event, hire people to create a YouTube video for them. Maybe even just actively promote you, actively support you. These are great things that are going to reflect awesome on you.

Sometimes it’s not about the money. It’s about just working for that PR, working for that shout out, having them bring their audience to you. You don’t know what a viewer can bring to you. Just one guy can change your life. That one dude that just suddenly found you, now he tunes in every day. Now it’s a plus one viewer for you. That’s an active supporter. Bang. You won. You won right there.

There’s so many different ways to open opportunities for yourself and to land actual caster jobs. Whether it be hosting events or attending certain places for extra income or creating content on the side, it’s about seeking for it. It’s about going out there and finding it. You have to understand. You have to believe that these guys need it just as much as you do. They want their games, their brands, their clothing, their everything to succeed as much as you do. As much as you want to succeed in yourself and your channel and your brand, they do too. They just need the right people that are going to tell them that you can do the job, right, that they can do the job. If you go in there and you’re super confident and you know you can do it, you’re going to be able to knock it out. You just got to believe in it. Have that confidence, show it.
