Speaker 1:
Let’s talk about whether or not you need a camera. Now I’ll answer this one, flat out from my opinion, I do not believe a streamer needs to stream with a camera. I do stream with a camera because of preference but this late in my streaming career, if I could choose to not have one, I would probably go without it. There’s a couple of reasons why, you have to think about it, camera means that you have to constantly sit here, be upright, look alive, you can’t yawn and do all types of other crazy stuff with a camera on. It’s also a slight liability, don’t ever feel like you need a camera to do live streaming, don’t ever feel like you need a high quality green screen to do live streaming.

There are some cool things to have in cameras right, that some people can do and other people can’t. You can either run multiple cameras, if I was doing something like this, there’s all types of fancy things, you can set up having multiple cameras but you do not need one to be a successful streamer. I’ll give you a little bit of proof, I’ll go ahead and float about the Twitch directory and I’ll show you guys one of my favorite streamers who also does not even use a webcam and he is wildly successful.

Okay, so hopping right in here, you can see that there is a guy named [inaudible 00:01:21], this dude here streams with no webcam, he is entertaining a number of people, over 23 thousand viewers. Now again, this guy does not stream with a webcam, he streams every single day. It’s about how much hard work he puts in to his channel to make it grow. A lot of streamers do use webcam though, so don’t feel like having a webcam or not having a webcam is going to be an advantage or disadvantage. You can see here that there are people that do not use one, and still has a ton of viewers, 9 thousand people. Don’t fall into the trap of needing a green screen or anything like that. It’s all about who you are and what you do and how you bring it to the stream.

As far as do you need a webcam to stream? Absolutely not, you do not need a webcam to live stream. It’s only a matter of personal preference, you’re going to find that through streaming you’re going to come across viewers that enjoy streamers that have webcam, enjoy the surprise factor of not knowing what you look like and just kind of having their own image of you in their mind. Just little things like that. So, if it were up to me, I would definitely not go with the webcam, at least just being here now. Waking up everyday, having to look appealing, having to stay sharp and alive. Sometimes it feels good to just stream with no webcam, sit back and just kind of relax. You know what I’m saying? Eat. You can do all types of stuff when you don’t have a webcam.

When you have a webcam you’re a person, you’re there, you’re not a robot, they can see you. Again, that can bring some kind of connection to your viewers. If you’re deciding whether or not you want to have a webcam, I’d say you try it out, see how you feel. It’s more about comfortability, being okay with yourself and being in front of the cameras and the lights and all that good stuff. Hope this helps you out on making your decision on whether or not you want to stream with a webcam.
