Among Us Beginners Guide and Tips

Among Us is a multiplayer party game featuring teamwork and betrayal, and developed by Innersloth. Set in a space-themed environment, players take on the roles of Crewmates or Impostors. While the Crewmates complete tasks to maintain the ship, Impostors secretly sabotage the mission and eliminate the crew. This guide is designed for beginners who want to understand how the game works and how to improve quickly—whether you’re playing with friends or jumping into public lobbies.
Be a Crew Member or Impostor
Among Us is typically played with 4 to 15 players and offers multiple maps such as The Skeld, Polus, MIRA HQ, The Airship, and Fungle. Players are randomly assigned to one of two roles:
- Crewmates: Your job is to complete assigned tasks and identify the Impostors.
- Impostors: You must blend in with the crew, sabotage the mission, and eliminate players without being caught.
The game ends when either the Crewmates finish all tasks or vote out all Impostors, or when Impostors kill enough Crewmates to control the ship.
Understand about Controls and Map Layout
The first thing to get familiar with is the control scheme, whether you’re playing on mobile, PC, or console. You use a virtual joystick or WASD keys to move around, and buttons for interacting with objects, killing (as Impostor), reporting bodies, or opening the map.
Your task list is displayed in the top-left corner of the screen. Tasks range from simple interactions like swiping a card or aligning engines, to multi-step processes such as refueling or inspecting samples. The map is crucial. Learn where major rooms are: Electrical, MedBay, Admin, Security, and Navigation are common hotspots for both kills and task completion.
Strategies for Crewmates
As a Crewmate, your main goal is to stay alive while completing all your assigned tasks. Task progress is shared, so the crew can win collectively when all tasks are finished. Here are some personalized tips when playing as a crewmate:
- Group Up Early: Stay near others without clumping too much. You’re less likely to be killed in groups, and people can vouch for your innocence.
- Memorize Tasks and Locations: Knowing what tasks exist in which rooms makes it easier to catch fakes and defend yourself.
- Use Admin and Security: These areas let you track player movements or watch cameras. They’re essential tools for gathering information.
- Keep an Eye on Visual Tasks: Tasks like MedBay scan or trash ejection show public animations. If you see someone do one, they are confirmed safe.
- Report Suspicious Activity: If you see someone vent, fake tasks, or act strangely (like pretending to do a task too quickly), make a mental note.
Strategies for Impostors
Being an Impostor requires deception, timing, and map awareness. You must pretend to be a Crewmate while secretly eliminating others and sabotaging the mission. Here are some personalized tips when playing as an impostor:
- Fake Tasks Believably: Learn how long tasks usually take and where they are located. Stand near a task for a realistic amount of time.
- Sabotage Creatively: Sabotages like lights, O2, or reactor meltdown force players into vulnerable positions and split the crew. Use them to isolate targets or delay tasks.
- Use Vents Wisely: Vents let you move quickly between rooms but using them at the wrong time can get you caught. Make sure no one is around.
- Self-Reporting: After killing, sometimes it helps to report the body yourself and shift suspicion to others. Just don’t overuse this trick.
- Blend with Crewmates: Avoid being overly aggressive or too quiet. Participate in discussions to seem involved. Ask questions and back up your “task” locations convincingly.
Emergency Meetings
This mechanic of the game is very important as it allows players to hold impromptu meetings to discuss if they found any clues pertaining to the impostors. It can also be used by impostors themselves to misguide other crewmates. Players can head over to the lobby area and press the big red button on the center to start an emergency meeting. Once done, all existing players will head over to the lobby and start an important discussion as to whether to vote any one out or not. During this time, you can use your deduction skills to analyze the situation so far.
Players can enjoy playing Among Us on a bigger screen of their PC or Laptop via BlueStacks along with your keyboard and mouse.
