Dragon POW! by Boltray Games boasts one of the best linear progression systems I have encountered in any game released recently. The premise is simple – you are a lone dragon tamer who’s pet dragon can magically devour enemies and steal some of their attack potency. Devour as much as possible and conquer your foes and reign supreme as the Dragon Lord! In this guide, you will be learning more about the game mechanics and game elements. Ensure to implement the tips mentioned in this guide for optimal progression!

Understanding the Gameplay Mechanics of Dragon POW!

At it’s core, Dragon POW! is a side-scrolling game that plays in portrait orientation only. Players can fight incoming mobs of enemies in the story stages, which are also the primary game mode of the game. You will need to progress down the story mode in order to unlock new game modes and systems. For example, the recruit system is locked until you clear Chapter 1 Stage 4 of the main story mode. Coming to combat, it’s quite simple. You will face multiple mobs of enemies, each with their own set of attack mechanisms. One thing that is common between all enemies is that they release their own “energy” in the form of attacks.

This energy can be devoured by your dragon and allow them to use “Dragonbreath” for a short while. This is nothing but an empowered basic attack. The duration and damage potency of this attack will depend on the amount of energy devoured by the dragon. Naturally, you can increase your overall DPS by continuously devouring enemy attacks and using your own empowered basic attacks. As you slay monsters, you will also earn experience resulting in level ups for your dragon. Each level up provides you an option to choose 1 out of 3 power-ups. These power-ups can be quite useful against some types of monsters or in boss stages.

The controls are also quite simple and intuitive. You can move on the screen using a virtual joystick and that’s it! Your dragon will automatically attack when you tap it. Otherwise, it will start devouring. The best part about the combat system is that everything is manual, giving you an unadulterated joy and excitement each time you traverse through a stage.

Dragons

Dragons are the core component of your game in Dragon POW! The game does a great job at presenting an amazing lore-based system of dragons. You will use them in any adventure you partake in. Dragons are the primary rider in any battle. There are multiple types of dragons, each of whom can evolve to provide you different benefits in the long run.

Bonds

When you level up, you get the ability to either choose a boost or some base stat increases. The latter can be in the form of damage up, vitality up, or MAX HP increase. The former can be variations of attacks used by Dragonbreathe of any Dragon. You can stack up these boosts to activate bonds. Once you reach 3 boosts of the same type, a bond will be activated that will enhance your overall damage. You should aim for choosing boosts that will allow you to fulfill conditions of activating the adjoining bond. Players can view their active bonds in battle by clicking on their dragon.

The Recruitment System of Dragon POW!

Much like any other live-service RPG on the market, Dragon POW! also employs a robust gacha system that allows players to recruit different dragon treasures. These treasures are essentially power-ups and abilities that can be equipped to your loadout in order to improve your strength. There are multiple banners that exist within the system. Depending on the banner, you can use multiple summoning currencies to ensure you get some good dragon treasures. These banners are also a crafty way for the developers to introduce new dragons and dragon treasures.

Dragon Treasures come in different rarities. The higher the rarity, the better their potency. Currently, all dragon treasures can be divided into 3 rarities – Epic, Excellent, and Rare. These banners also have a high chance of giving you fragments for Dragon treasures of all rarities. Additionally, these banners also have items available to be summoned. These items can be Common Mending Liquid, Rare Mending Liquid, Star Stones, Excellent Mending Liquid, and Dragonsoul Stones.
