Welcome to the high-stakes world of the Hunter Association. HUNTER×HUNTER NEN×SURVIVOR has officially dropped, bringing a frantic, roguelike twist to the universe we all know and love. Developed by WonderPlanet and published by Bushiroad Games, this title isn’t just a simple wave-clearer. It requires a sharp mind, a bit of Nen-fueled strategy, and a lot of movement. Whether you are aiming to be a Triple-Star Hunter or just trying to survive your first five minutes in the arena, this guide will help you navigate the chaos.

The Core Gameplay Loop of HUNTER×HUNTER NEN×SURVIVOR

At its heart, HUNTER×HUNTER NEN×SURVIVOR is a survival action roguelike. If you have played games in the survivor genre before, you will recognize the rhythm: you drop into a stage, enemies swarm you, and you mow them down to collect experience. In this game, experience takes the form of glowing orbs dropped by defeated foes. Picking these up fills your experience bar at the top of the screen.

Every time you level up during a run, the game presents you with a choice of three random skills or Nen abilities. This is where the roguelike element shines. No two runs are exactly the same because your build evolves based on these choices. You might focus on projectiles one time and massive area-of-effect blasts the next. The trick is to look for synergy. Pay attention to the icons on the skill selection screen; the game often highlights which abilities directly complement your current character’s strengths.

Movement is your primary defensive tool. The controls are designed for one-handed play, meaning your character attacks automatically while you focus on positioning. Never stand still. Enemies will eventually crowd you, and getting trapped usually means a quick trip back to the main menu. Circle around the map to gather experience orbs and keep the horde at a manageable distance.

HUNTER×HUNTER NEN×SURVIVOR – Team Building and Character Roles

Unlike many other survivor games where you fly solo, HUNTER×HUNTER NEN×SURVIVOR emphasizes a team-based approach. You can bring a total of four characters into a run, but they aren’t all created equal. Every character in the game falls into one of four categories: Attack, Defense, Support, or Recovery. While it is tempting to go all-in on damage with four Attack types, a balanced 1-1-1-1 setup is usually the most stable path for new players. Having a Recovery unit like Leorio ensures you can bounce back from mistakes, while a Defense unit can help mitigate the pressure from elite mobs and bosses.

The Leader

The character you select as your Leader is the only one you directly control. More importantly, the Leader’s health is the only health bar that matters. If your Leader falls, the run ends immediately. For beginners, I highly recommend starting with a ranged Leader like Netero. Melee characters like Gon are powerful but require you to get dangerously close to enemies, which increases your risk of taking damage. Staying at a distance while your abilities do the work is a much safer way to learn enemy patterns.

Support Characters

The other three characters on your team act as automated backups. They follow you around and use their abilities on their own. While they don’t contribute to your health pool, their damage and utility are vital for clearing the screen. They can help peel enemies off you when you are cornered or provide healing and buffs.

Character Progression: Grades, Rarities, and Evolution

Winning a run depends on your skill, but your long-term success is dictated by how well you invest in your roster. Characters come in two main rarities: A and S. S-rarity units generally have better growth potential and stronger baseline stats, but don’t count out your A-rarity units just yet.

You can improve your characters through a process called Evolution. By collecting duplicate character stones from summons or events, you can increase their grade. Moving a character from Elite toward Legend status provides massive stat boosts and improves their signature Nen abilities. It is often better to have a highly evolved A-rarity character than a base-level S-rarity character who hasn’t been upgraded.

Focus your early resources on a core team. Spreading your Aura Stones and Jenny (the game’s currency) too thin will leave you with a bunch of mediocre characters who can’t handle the difficulty spikes in later story chapters. Pick your favorite Leader and build around them.

Memory Scene System of HUNTER×HUNTER NEN×SURVIVOR

Memory Scenes act as your gear system. These are cards that represent iconic moments from the series, and they provide significant stat bonuses and special effects. Each character has six slots for Memory Scenes, divided into two types. The slots on the left are generally offensive-focused, boosting your attack power and critical hit rates. The slots on the right are durability-focused, increasing your health and defensive capabilities. You should match these scenes to the role of your character. Give your Attackers the heavy-hitting offensive scenes and save the high-health cards for your Recovery and Defense units.

System Reinforcement for Permanent Upgrades

Roguelikes often feature a meta-progression system that makes you stronger over time, even if you lose a run. In this game, that system is called System Reinforcement. This is where you should spend the majority of your Jenny.

System Reinforcement provides permanent, account-wide stat boosts. These include increases to base health, attack power, and even the amount of experience you gain from orbs. Because these upgrades apply to every character you own, they are the most efficient way to scale your power. Even if you switch your entire team to try a new strategy, your System Reinforcement bonuses will still be there to back you up.
