Seal of Fate throws you into an anime fantasy world full of flashy characters, strategic battles, and just the right amount of chaos. If you’re here, you’re probably just starting out. That, you’re just curious to see if this RPG’s worth your time. Regardless, in this beginner’s guide, we’re going to walk you through the core concepts of the game: what it’s about, how it plays, and what systems you’ll interact with early on. We won’t be diving too deep into optimization or min-maxing here. Instead, the goal is to get you comfortable with the fundamentals so you can enjoy the ride.

Let’s begin!

The World, the Story, and the Vibe

At its core, Seal of Fate is a lighthearted but stylish RPG that leans into both humor and high-fantasy spectacle. The story kicks off with the Ginger Squad, a ragtag team of broke adventurers, hunting for the legendary Seal of Fate. Of course, things escalate when Princess Vera joins the party and sets off a chain reaction that brings in her sister Khione, a powerful mage, and a magical seal that takes the form of a girl.

If you’re familiar with gacha-style RPGs, you’ll feel right at home. If not, don’t worry, the game introduces each mechanic gradually as you progress through its story-driven campaign. Chapters are broken into stages, which unlock rewards and features over time. Some of the cutscenes are styled like manga panels, which helps keep things light and engaging between fights.

Hands-Off and Turn-Based Strategy Combat

Combat in Seal of Fate is turn-based, but it’s more than just numbers flying across the screen. Your squad takes turns with the enemy squad, and the order of actions, along with your team’s synergy, can make or break a fight.

Each character has two main bars:

  • HP Bar: Your health. If it hits zero, you’re out.
  • Energy Bar: Fills up during battle. Once full, you can unleash a character’s Ultimate ability.

Ultimates are flashy and often game-changing, dealing massive damage or triggering powerful effects like healing or buffs. It goes without saying that an ultimate at the right time can swing momentum in your favor, especially during boss encounters—not that you have a way of controlling this directly, since they are used automatically once the energy bar is full.

While the game starts out simple, new combat mechanics, difficulty curves, and enemy compositions ramp up as you progress. It pays to experiment with different character combinations and roles.

Characters, Rarities, and Meowmates

Characters in Seal of Fate are called Meowmates, and they come in various rarities: R, SR, SSR, and UR. But what sets this game apart is its “All-UR Evolution” system, which means even low-rarity characters can eventually be upgraded to UR status through investment and progression. While rerolling in Seal of Fate isn’t crucial because of this, it can still give you a leg up by starting out with a strong character.

That’s important, because it means you’re not permanently punished for getting “bad luck” on early summons. Every character has a path forward.

Characters are split into basic combat roles:

  • Striker: Damage dealers
  • Guardian: Tanks that absorb hits
  • Support: Healers and buffers
  • Raider: Combo-based attackers or debuffers

A balanced team will usually include at least one damage dealer, one tank, and one support — with the rest of your team built around synergy, combo potential, or raw stats.

Summons and Progression Systems

As with most gacha RPGs, summoning characters is a big part of the game. Seal of Fate offers free summons early on, including 10 Summon Scrolls and SSR Vicky just for pre-registering. From there, you’ll unlock more summoning systems as you level up and progress through chapters.

Summons can be performed using:

  • Summon Scrolls
  • Starmonds (Premium Currency)
  • Event-specific scrolls

You can also collect character shards, which are used to unlock or power up specific Meowmates, including Star-Up evolution to increase their star rank. Rarer characters require more fragments to evolve, but events and gameplay offer multiple ways to get them.

One thing to keep in mind is that SSR characters are guaranteed after a certain number of summonings, through a 50-pull pity system, so if you’re consistent, you will get them, even without spending.

Building Your Team

As you unlock more characters and features, you’ll gradually build your main squad. The game allows for six Meowmates per team, but you won’t have all slots unlocked immediately:

  • Slots 1–3: Available from the start
  • Slot 4: Unlocks after Chapter 2-1
  • Slots 5–6: Unlock at level 10

When building your team, aim for a core DPS, a support, and at least one frontliner or tank. From there, flex in characters that boost your utility, add combo potential, or give you an edge in specific fights (like poison cleanse, AoE damage, etc.).

Some characters have bond effects, meaning they’ll gain bonus stats or trigger team-wide buffs when placed together. It’s worth experimenting to see what combinations unlock these passive bonuses.

Leveling, Tiering, and Equipment

Once you’ve picked your main team, it’s time to power them up. There are multiple upgrade systems:

  • Level Up: Use EXP potions to increase character level and stats
  • Tier Up: Unlocks new abilities and increases stats with materials earned from gameplay
  • Star Up: Use duplicates or fragments to raise star level and eventually reach UR rarity
  • Gear: Equip characters with armor and weapons. Higher rarity gear provides set bonuses and stronger stats.
  • Artifacts: Additional gear slot with powerful effects — some heal, others enhance ultimates.

Currencies, Energy & Events

You’ll use a variety of currencies in Seal of Fate:

  • Starmonds: Premium currency for summons, shop items, or event entries
  • Dragon Ores: Another type of premium currency
  • Stamina: Required to participate in battles, and it regenerates over time, or via consumables

Daily login rewards, special events, and time-limited missions often give you these in generous amounts. Don’t forget to check your event tab regularly, early players get free access to character unlocks, skins, and high-value items through limited-time campaigns.
