From the innovators and creators at Playdek, Inc., Fort Sumter: The Secession Cri is another fun addition to the World of Board games. Go beyond your mobile screen and play it bigger and better on your PC or Mac. An immersive experience awaits you.
Fort Sumter: The Secession Crisis plays like a tight little tug of war about politics instead of battles. One side is Unionist, the other is Secessionist, and the whole thing is about nudging influence on a small map and four tracks that matter a lot: Political, Secession, Public Opinion, and Armaments. Turns are card driven, so each card can fire a historical event or be spent for points to place, move, or pull off political capital. Because the board is compact, every cube placement feels tense, and after three short rounds it all snaps into a Final Crisis that decides the winner. It is easy to learn, quick to play, and still asks for good timing and hand management.
The theme sticks, with events poking at States Rights, divided Northern opinion, and the slow slide to Fort Sumter. There is voice over and era-flavored audio, which adds some color without getting in the way. Solo players get an A.I. that holds up for casual games, and multiplayer works in real time or asynchronously, plus there is pass and play if two people are sharing a screen. On PC through BlueStacks the map looks crisp, the cards are easy to read, and clicking pieces with a mouse feels clean. Online play needs internet and an account, and the service is for ages 13 and up. If someone wants a short, thinky area control game with real history baked in, this scratches that itch without asking for a huge time sink.
