Launched in September 2022, TikTok Now is integrated into the base app rather than requiring users to install a separate piece of software. TikTok Now’s daily notifications encourage users to document their days with photos and videos captured with the front and rear cameras.

BeReal, a French app, provides a similar service by randomly notifying its users each day to snap a photo with their front and back cameras and share it with their friends and family. TikTok Now seems to have essentially adopted this idea and incorporated it into its own platform, albeit with some additional security measures. Users under the age of 18 are restricted from publishing their TikTok Now videos to the Explore Feed, while users between the ages of 13 and 15 can only share their videos with friends.
