The new Call of Dragons has finally been released, giving both fans and newcomers to the Rise of Kingdoms title a brand new game to sink their teeth into. And what better way to start the development of your town on the right track than with the best tips, tricks, and strategies at your disposal? This is the purpose of this Call of Dragons beginner’s guide, as we’ll be giving an overview of the basic elements in this game, as well as sharing a few pointers to get a good start.

Call of Dragons Beginner’s Guide - How to Start Developing Your Town Quickly and with Ease

Let’s begin!

Choosing the Best Starter Faction in Call of Dragons

First off, just like in Rise of Kingdoms, your journey in Call of Dragons starts by choosing a faction. Each of these groups has their own unique traits and perks, including passive bonuses, military units, and a starting hero, among many other aspects.

Players as of launch will be able to choose between the Springwardens; the League of Order, and Wilderburg, and other perks aside, the faction that offers the best passive bonuses for the beginning is, without a doubt, the League of Order. Specifically, this faction offers bonuses to the gathering speed of your troops, allowing you to generate resources quicker, therefore speeding up the overall development of your town. And this is without mentioning that this faction starts with Waldyr, one of the best heroes overall for both PvP and PvE, who offers strong AoE capabilities to wipe out your enemies in the field.

If you want to get a leg up in Call of Dragons, then go with the League of Order.

Building Up Your Town

If you’ve played any other strategy conquest games in the past, then you’ll be pleased to know that, when it comes to building and developing your town, the overall process in Call of Dragons is very similar.

To build a new structure, you must simply pull it up from the menu on the bottom left, and then place it wherever you want within your territory. Keep in mind that the layout of your town is merely cosmetic and has no actual weight on your gameplay. As such, feel free to design your town however you prefer.

Each building and upgrade, as well as pretty much any other element, in Call of Dragons has its own cost in resources such as wood, ore, and gold, among others. And while you can produce these resources in-house by building and upgrading production structures, most of your generation will actually come from gathering resources from the world map, which we’ll talk about a bit further down.

How to Navigate the World Map

Shortly after you start the game, you’ll gain access to the world map, which is where the game really starts to open up, as this feature is essentially your window to interacting with other players and gameplay elements. More specifically, the world map is littered with other players’ towns, as well as tons of resource points and neutral NPCs that you can interact with.

When it comes to the resource points, you can interact with these by clicking on them, which will give you the option of gathering from them by sending out your armies. This is how you’ll be generating a good chunk of your resources; by using your troops and making them gather from these points. Meanwhile, the other neutral NPCs are simply there so you can send your armies and heroes to attack and defeat them, and reap valuable rewards such as experience items through which you can level up your heroes.

It’s worth pointing out here that most of the map will be covered in fog at the beginning, which is where your scouts come into play. By sending them out to explore from the Scout Camp, your scouts will run around the map uncovering the fog as they run by, and reporting any points of interest that they discover in their reports when they return back home. Try to be as diligent as possible in sending out your scouts whenever they’re idle so that you can maximize your knowledge of your surroundings.

Maximizing Your Resource Generation

When it comes to the world map, there’s one aspect in particular that we need to stress due to its importance: the gathering points. These are the places where you will be sending out your armies quite frequently as they are the best ways to massively boost your resource production far beyond what your production buildings could ever produce.

However, gathering from the world map requires diligence and being constant, as your armies will need to be manually sent out to gather every single time they come back from their trips. As such, it’s easy to lose track of your armies and leave them idle for extended periods of time. Luckily, as long as you set up an alarm to notify you when they’re back and ready for more orders, you can significantly boost your progress by keeping them gathering at all times.

Alternatively, if you’re playing Call of Dragons on PC with BlueStacks, you can use the Macro Recorder to automate this gathering process. By recording yourself gathering any given resource at least just once, you can then use the resulting macro to repeat the process as many times as you want. You don’t even have to be actively playing the game for it to work—simply activate your macro and set it to loop indefinitely, and you’ll be maximizing your gathering uptime even while you’re away or have the game minimized to the background.

Troops and Armies

A vital part of your development is your armies, as these are the units that will not only go out to the world map to gather resources, but that will also give their lives for the defense of your town; not to mention that your army will also be the ones who you will send out to attack both NPCs as well as other players.

It goes without saying that you should always be working to grow your army by constantly having your military building training troops. This process will be a constant drain on your resources, which is why you will always want to be gathering from the world map. Moreover, it also requires a lot of diligence and attention for you to maximize your troop training potential without losing any progress due to downtime, especially since you can’t automate this process by most means.

Once again, the Macro Recorder could be of use here as you could, in theory, create looping macros that indefinitely automate your troop training. However, they are a bit more complex to pull off compared to gathering macros. Regardless, we’ve also left instructions on how to set these up in our macro automation guide for Call of Dragons.

One important thing you need to know about troops is that, in battle, each unit type is strong against a single other type, and weak against another. The way these interactions work in Call of Dragons is as follows:

Infantry > Mounted > Marksmen > Magic > Infantry

In these interactions, units deal additional damage to the enemy types they’re strong against, but take additional damage from those they are weak to. As such, it’s always important to keep a balance of units in your army, until the point where you start unlocking the best heroes that favor a certain troop type over another. And even in these cases, you should still strive to keep a balance whenever possible, since it’s easier to counter an army that relies heavily on a single troop type, due to the way the type matchup system works.

The only outlier here would be the Workhorses, which are the tier I mounted units, as while these are quite weak, you will always want to keep a lot of these troops around since they boast high load capacities and are excellent for gathering resources from the world map early on.

Technology and Research

Once you unlock the corresponding research building for your faction, you’ll gain access to the tech trees. These research paths offer tons of benefits that you can unlock by spending resources and waiting for the corresponding research projects to finish. These benefits can go from improving your gathering speed and troop training capacity, to improving the amount of intel received from spying enemies, and even unlocking massively powerful unit tiers.

Suffice to say, you’ll always want to be researching projects in your labs, especially since the more complex techs require tons of time to finish.

Heroes and Artifacts

While heroes are a recurring feature in most of these games, and hardly require an explanation of their own, one of the more interesting features in Call of Dragons is the artifact system.

Artifacts are objects that you can equip to your heroes, which confer unique properties and grants access to new skills while out on the field. In this sense, while your heroes each have their own abilities that they can use in combat, they can also tap into their artifacts in order to use different skills to supplement their own kits. And the best part is that you can mix and match these artifacts however you see fit.

You can unlock both new artifacts as well as new heroes from the Tavern building: The former are summoned from the Artifact Draw option, by using Universal Artifact Keys as currency, while the latter are summoned from the Hero Recruitment option, by using Silver and Gold Keys to open gacha chests. It’s worth mentioning that while artifact draws will always result in artifacts of any quality, the hero chests can either result in full heroes, hero tokens, or even resource packs, among other items.

And with that, you should hopefully know enough to get a decent start in Call of Dragons. Feel free to share your own beginner tips, tricks, and pointers in the comments below!
