In this article, we will be jumping headfirst into the most important additions that have arrived with the Call of Dragons 1.0.18 “The Icebound Oath” update.

New Gameplay Addition: War Pets

By far, one of the most attractive aspects of this new Call of Dragons update is the addition of another big gameplay system to complement the already quite hefty offering that this game has to offer. We’re talking about, as the title implies, the arrival of War Pets, lovable creatures that you can tame and help grow alongside your army, and eventually have it join you in your many military campaigns as a valuable asset to your troops.

Of course, while the specifics are still unclear, considering that this Icebound Oath update is landing this August 31, we can glean several core mechanics of this new system from the patch notes. Specifically, players will be able to obtain new pets, as well as name them. In addition to this, and to raise them into powerful beasts, players will need to interact with their pets, giving them pats and feeding them, as they continue to grow their strength. And once the pet is fully grown, you can deploy it alongside your troops on the field, to give your army a powerful animal ally, and improve your odds of success in combat.

A Streamlined and Smaller World Map

Alongside this new pet system, Season 2 of Call of Dragons will have players moving to a brand new locale, a land by the name of Belleron. This new place is a more compact setting, compared to the map of the previous, but features tons of variety regarding its biomes, locales, and points of interests. In other words, you’ll be able to find everything that you would’ve found in the previous land; the main difference here is that since the map is much smaller, you won’t have as much of a hard time finding specific objects or players.

As mentioned above, the realm of Belleron has everything you can expect to find on a map for these types of games, including a variety of biomes and locales. This place has been dominated by the Dwarven kingdom of Kadwaladyr for a millenia. As such, you can expect to find their imposing fortresses alongside the highest cliffs of the region.

Along with this new map comes the addition of two brand new Behemoths. Coming season 2, players will be able to find and challenge the new Frost Giant and Frost Dragon Behemoths. Like their older counterparts, these powerful adversaries sport high stats and are some of the stronger threats that roam the lands. Moreover, these creatures feature brand new Behemoth Affixes, which should make them completely unique from the other beasts that you’ve faced so far. Nevertheless, to the victor go the spoils, which is why you will want to find these creatures and collaborate with your allies to take them down; to score that sweet, sweet loot that they will drop.

In addition to the new Behemoths, players will be able to spot new points of interest and objects in Belleron, including neutral villages that give an overview of the land and its history, giving fans of exploration something to look forward to. Additionally, players will also be able to find Proving Grounds scattered across the land, which offer unique challenges to players and their alliances upon interacting with them. Completing these challenges will reward users with currencies and blessings, which can be spent to activate powerful boons and bonuses.

New Heroes and Artifacts

No new major update for these games is ever complete without adding new heroes to the roster, and The Icebound Oath update for Call of Dragons is no exception. Upon the release date of August 31, players will be able to spot two new Legendary heroes joining the roster, as well as brand new Artifact to unlock and upgrade. The two new heroes are the following:

  • Theodore: An imposing knight character that specializes Cavalry, Garrison, and Skills.
  • Forondil: An Elven Druid type hero that focuses on Cavalry, PvP, and Control.

The specific details and skills of these new characters are, as of yet, unannounced, and they likely will remain as such until the patch drops this August 31. Nevertheless, just by looking at them you can tell they’re going to be great additions to the roster. And speaking of additions, this patch also includes a new Artifact called “Oath of Stormpeak”. And while the hero details are hidden until the update goes live, the developers were generous enough to share the specifics of this new Artifact:

the Oath of Stormpeak is a Cavalry, PvP, and Tank artifact that can clone the legion of the Hero that carries it. The cloned legion shares the same stats and skills and can even cast Rage skills. Nevertheless, they have a damage penalty on both sides, which means that they deal less damage, and take more damage. On top of that, this Artifact can passively make your legion inflict Cowardice on the enemy, and causes them to gain the Rampage effect, increasing their damage by 4%.

Balance Improvements and Fixes

While the additions and new season are the centerpiece of this brand new Call of Dragons update, it’s also nice to see that the developers are releasing a whole host of improvements, balance changes, and fixes, to ensure that the gaming experience is the best it can be. Some of these fixes include improvements to the Celestial Battlegrounds event, as well as lowering the challenge of the Breaking Through event.

There are many other fixes and improvements in the Call of Dragons 1.0.18 update, and we recommend checking out the official patch notes to get a better idea of what these will be. Nevertheless, we recommend checking out the game this coming August 31, if you aren’t playing already, to enjoy all the new things that are coming from “The Icebound Oath” update.
