The agonizing yet thrilling crime-filled life isn’t anyone’s favourite cup of tea, yet games like Grand Theft Auto have made it all the more exciting with open-world exploration, questing, and much more. Netease’s new open-world RPG Codename Crime – Vice Open World takes on the challenge to be the “GTA” for mobile devices. This beginners guide will shed light on the game’s core progression systems, controls, and open-world questing. Let’s begin!

Learn the Gameplay Flow of Codename Crime – Vice Open World

In Codename Crime – Vice, you role-play a vigilante criminal who got caught in a bank theft gone wrong. The tutorial of the game actually starts off with this entire scenario, giving players tips on how the controls work, how to use and switch weapons, as well as giving you a glimpse of the driving mechanics. It’s pretty well-made, and we would recommend every new player to closely follow it.

After finishing the tutorial, you are given a Phone after first customizing your character’s clothing and appearance. The entire gameplay revolves around completing different types of quests that grant you experience as well as unlock different game elements.

The main quests in Codename Crime – Vice can be seen on the left-hand side of the screen, marked in the yellow color. Players can tap on the quest, and that will mark the location of the quest on your mini-map. The mini-map is actually your best source of information and you can check-mark some of the key locations such as the weapons shop, the diner, your apartment, and much more.

Wanted Level and Police Mechanics in Codename Crime – Vice

Much like how policing works in GTA games, the only way to trigger being a wanted criminal is whenever you cause mayhem. This can happen if you shoot people in open places, steal multiple cars and wreak havoc, or if you steal and rob different places. To be honest, it’s really to trigger being wanted in this game. The wanted level is determined by how many stars you have activated. A maximum of 5 stars can be acquired, and each star increase can happen if you further aggravate any situation. Killing cops and stealing their vehicles is probably the best way to directly increase star level.

Each increase in star level increases your wanted status, notifying police about your location, and a trail of cop cars on you. At 5 stars, you can even witness police choppers trying to take you down from the air. It’s relatively easy to clear the wanted stigma in Codename Crime – Vice as you only need to dodge any cops for a few minutes.

This task becomes even easier if you’re in a vehicle, as the icons of cops can be seen on the mini-map, giving you time to dodge them or simply drift your car away in the opposite direction. At wanted level 5, this can be a bit tougher as the police chopper can be hard to dodge. It’s advised to stay in buildings or at your apartment if the situation becomes too tense.

Master the Controls in Codename Crime – Vice

The control setup in Codename Crime – Vice is quite refreshing for a change. Unlike many modern games who try to clutter the screen with multiple icons and tabs, the controls in Codename Vice are easy to navigate and customize. For starters, the virtual movement wheel is located on the left-hand side. On the right-hand side, you can see the fist icon to throw punches, a dash button, and a jump button. The fist icon changes to the gun icon when you switch to a weapon. When wielding a weapon, a reload button can also be seen to easily reload your weapon.

Weapons in Codename Crime – Vice

The weapon system in Codename Crime – Vice is quite advanced for a mobile game, especially a GTA-based title. It features a ton of different weapons, each differing in terms of rarity. The base rarity of weapons starts at Common, going all the way to Top Shelf. Players can also upgrade their owned weapons, increasing their base rarity. This level up happens via proficiency, wherein the more you use the weapon, the more proficiency you earn with it. Players can equip up to 3 weapons at a time. New weapons can be purchased from the robotic gun dealer at the BuyMore shop.
