Honkai: Star Rail has never been shy about experimenting with new ways to play, and the Currency Wars system is easily one of the most ambitious additions. This mode takes the thrill of tactical auto chess and injects it with the flashy, high stakes combat of the Astral Express crew. In our HSR currency wars guide, we have explained the gameplay mechanics and rewards in digestible bits for new players to understand. We have also listed down the best characters to use in this game mode. Check for yourself below!

What are Currency Wars in Honkai: Star Rail?

Located under the Cosmic Strife tab, Currency Wars is a permanent, auto chess inspired experience that receives periodic content updates. It blends the characters you love with a deep economic strategy layer, forcing you to think like a general rather than just a combatant. While it shares the bi weekly reset schedule of other major end game modes, it stands out by focusing on automated combat and roster management.

Every two weeks on Monday at 4:00 AM server time, the board is wiped clean, giving you a brand new chance to climb the ranks and earn a fresh set of prizes. Only your long term progression in the Startup Guide and Advantage Layout carries over, ensuring that every period feels like a new strategic puzzle to solve.

What are the Rewards of Currency Wars in Honkai: Star Rail?

The main reason to participate and play the Currency Wars is for the loot. As you play through the mode, you earn points. The more points you get, the more rewards you unlock. If your Equilibrium Level (your main account level) is higher, you get even better prizes.

For players at Equilibrium Level 6, the goal is to hit 18,000 points. Doing this nets you a bunch of great stuff like Stellar Jades for pulling new characters, Star Rail Passes, and materials to upgrade your units like Lost Crystals and Fuel Vouchers. You can get points easily by winning a Standard match. If you are in a rush, the Overclocking match is faster but gives slightly fewer rewards. Remember to play every two weeks so you do not miss out on the free Jades.

Gameplay Mechanics of Currency Wars game mode in Honkai: Star Rail

This mode is all about management, not button mashing. You need to pick a squad of 10 characters. You place 4 of them On Field to do the actual fighting. The other 6 sit Off Field and help out automatically by buffing the team or doing special attacks. There are three main things you need to learn to win:

The Economy: You earn Gold Coins by winning fights. You use these coins to buy characters or level up your team size. The trick is to save your money. For every 10 coins you keep in your pocket, you get +1 bonus coin after a battle. You can get up to +3 bonus coins this way. So, try not to spend everything immediately; saving makes you rich later in the game.

Star Levels: Every character starts at 1 star. If you buy three copies of the same character, they combine into a 2 star version. If you get three 2 star versions, they combine into a powerful 3 star unit. A cheap character that is 3 stars is usually stronger than a rare character that is only 1 star.

Bonds and Gear: Characters have groups or types. If you put characters from the same group together, you unlock a Bond. Bonds give you super strong passive effects, like summoning a giant lightning lord or doing extra damage. You can also give characters Equipment. If you combine two basic items, you make an Advanced Item that gives a crazy buff, like letting you use your Ultimate immediately.

Best Teams to Use in Honkai: Star Rail Currency Wars

Here are the best team setups to help you get more points in Currency Wars easily:

  • Aglaea Energy Team – This team is all about speed and energy. Put Aglaea, Sunday, Cyrene, and Hyacine on the field. Aglaea loves to go fast, so give her Speed items. Your off field friends like Tingyun and Huohuo will feed her energy so she can attack constantly.
  • Imbibitor Lunae Team – This team focuses on using Skill Points. Imbibitor Lunae uses a lot of points to do big damage. Pair him with Sparkle and Sunday. When you use the Skill Point Bond, spending points lets you draw for random prizes like extra turns or damage boosts. It is very chaotic but very strong.
  • Bloodflame Team – This team is risky but powerful. It uses the Bloodflame Bond, which deals damage to enemies based on how much HP your team loses. Use Castorice as your main attacker. Put characters like Blade and Jingliu in the back because they hurt themselves, which powers up your attacks. Just make sure to bring healers like Luocha so you do not die.
  • Phainon Team – This team focuses on using Ultimates quickly. Phainon is your main guy here. Use support characters like Sunday and Tingyun to fill up his energy bar instantly. This lets Phainon use his biggest attacks right at the start of the fight to wipe out enemies before they can move.
