With over 20 unique characters and more NPC (Non-Playable Characters) shown with the closed beta tests conducted during 2022, players are already able to gauge and create an early tier list for the strongest characters in the game. Naturally, the information provided in this tier list is going to be very vague as not all characters were able to be tested equally and the limited participation numbers in the closed beta tests resulted in low data acquisition. However, with enough data to back up this tier list, we are confident in the validity of these characters when the next beta or global launch of Honkai: Star Rail occurs.

Here is a short overview of all the tiers mentioned in this tier list:

• S-Tier Characters – The characters mentioned in this tier are having some of the best base stats out of all other characters. They have the highest damage multipliers in the game and are recommended to use in the majority of the content in the game. These characters’ skillset works in harmony with their gameplay style.
• A-Tier Characters – The characters mentioned in this tier list do not have bad base stats but their abilities are limited to a specific niche or need a specific team to work well with. They can be pushed to S-Tier if they receive a buff/change to their skill set after the game launches globally.
• B-Tier Characters – The characters mentioned in this tier list are not the brightest characters available in the game. They are still good for early-game players who do not have a wide variety of characters to use but avoid investing too many of your resources into them.

S Tier Characters

Let’s take a look at some of the characters in this tier:

BLADE

Blade is a 5-Star Wind elemental character that is classified as part of the Destruction class of heroes. Blade is one of the best bruisers in the game that can not only deal a high amount of damage to enemies but also soak up a significant amount of damage. One of the best-case scenarios of using Blade is in campaign stages against bad element advantage as he gains energy and charges up an AOE-targeted attack when taking 5 hits. Blade’s basic skill Shard Sword is a single-targeted damaging skill that deals 50% of Blade’s ATK as Wind DMG to a target enemy. His 2nd ability Hellscape states the following – “Consumes 30% of Blade’s Max HP to Immediately Advance action forward by 100%. In addition, DMG increases by 12%. and Basic ATK “Shard Sword is enhanced to” Forest of Swords for 3 turns). Skill cannot be used while “Forest of Swords still active. If HP is insufficient after using Skill. Blade’s HP will be reduced to 1. This Skill cannot regenerate Energy.”. Blade’s ultimate ability Death Sentence does as follow – “Deals 28.8% of Blade’s ATK plus 72% of Max HP as Wind DMG to an enemy and adjacent target. and 14.4% of Blade’s ATK plus 36% of Max HP as Wind DMG to adjacent targets. Additionally. sets Blade’s current HP to 50% of his Max HP.”

HIMETO

Himeto is a 5-Star Fire elemental character that is classified as part of the Destruction class of heroes. Himeto’s hero description reads the following – “Himeto is an adventurous scientist who encountered the Astral Express as a child when it got stranded in her home world. At that time, some existence in the Express revealed to this young girl a whole world outside of her own — the universe.” Himeto’s basic ability Scythe Rush is a single targeted damaging skill that deals 50% of Himeko’s ATK as Fire DMG to a target enemy. Her 2nd ability Molten Detonation states the following – “Deal 100% of Himeko’s ATK as Fire DMG to a target enemy and 40% of Himeko’s ATK as Fire DMG to enemies adjacent to the target.”. Himeto’s ultimate ability Heavenly Flames deals 120% of Himeko’s ATK as Fire DMG to all enemies. Himeko restores an extra 10 Energy for each enemy defeated.

CLARA

Clara is a 5-Star Physical elemental character that is classified as part of the Destruction class of heroes. Clara’s hero description reads the following – “Clara a shy young girl with no home, Clara had no choice but to join the prospectors to survive. She inadvertently reactivated a dormant relic from a past civilization — the robot Svarog. “To have a family.” This is Clara’s response when asked what she wishes for most.” Clara’s basic ability I Want To Help is a single targeted damaging skill that deals 50% of Clara’s ATK as Physical DMG to a target enemy. Her 2nd ability Svarog Watches Over You states the following – “Deal 150% of Clara’s ATK as Physical DMG to all enemies marked with Svarog’s Mark of Retaliation. When there is more than one enemy marked, increase this Skill’s total DMG Multiplier by 90% for every additional enemy marked. This Skill will remove all existing Marks of Retaliation and cannot be used if there are no enemies marked.” Clara’s ultimate ability Promise, Not Command is an Enhance type skill where Svarog enters Burst mode, reloading its ammunition and resetting its Counter count. After using an Ultimate, greatly increase the chance Clara will be attacked by enemies, and reduce Clara’s DMG taken by 15%. In addition, after Clara is attacked, Svarog will Counter with an increased DMG Multiplier of 25%. This effect lasts for 2 turn(s) or until there is no more Counter count left.

GEPARD

Gepard is a 5-Star Ice elemental character that is classified as part of the Preservation class of heroes. Gepard’s hero description reads the following – “Gepard is an upright and noble captain of the Silvermane Guards who bears the name of the age-old Gepard family. In the blizzard-battered city of Belobog, defense is much more challenging than attack. Gepard and the Silvermane Guards he leads serve as the unbreakable iron defense of the Union in this hostile world.” Gepard’s basic ability Fist of Conviction is a single targeted damaging skill that deals 50% of Gepard’s ATK as Ice DMG to a target enemy. His 2nd ability Intimidating Strike states the following – “Deal 75% of Gepard’s ATK as Ice DMG to a target enemy. There is a 65% base chance to inflict Freeze for 1 turn(s). While Frozen, enemies cannot move and will take 25% of Gepard’s ATK as Ice DMG each turn.” Gepard’s ultimate ability Eternal Barrier applies a shield buff to all allies, absorbing DMG equal to 36% of Gepard’s DEF +90 for 3 turn(s).

SEELE

Clara is a 5-Star Quantum elemental character that is classified as part of the Hunt class of heroes. Seele’s hero description reads the following – “Seela is a spirited and valiant member of Wildfire who grew up in the perilous Underworld of Belobog. She is accustomed to being on her own. As someone who once relied on others for protection, she now pursues strength. For the truth of the underground and her family’s name, Seele can endure any kind of adversity.” Seele’s basic ability Scythe Rush is a single targeted damaging skill that deals 50% of Seele’s ATK as Quantum DMG to a target enemy. Her 2nd ability Sheathed Blade states the following – “Deal 100% of Seele’s ATK as Quantum DMG to a target enemy and increase SPD by 35 for 2 turn(s).” Seele’s ultimate ability Butterfly Furry is a single targeted execution stylized attack that states “Receive buff and deal 240% of Seele’s ATK as Quantum DMG to a target enemy.”

Welt is a 5-Star Imaginary elemental character that is classified as part of the Nihility class of heroes. Welt’s hero description reads the following – “The wise and sophisticated former Anti-Entropy Sovereign who inherits the name of the world — Welt. He has saved Earth from annihilation time and time again. After the calamity ended, the heavy burden ordained by fate to Welt had been removed for a time, and he became an animation storyboard artist. However, after the conspiracy with St. Fountain came to a close, Welt had no choice but to venture with the initiator of the incident to the other side of the space portal.” Welt’s basic ability Gravity Suppression is a single targeted damaging skill that deals 50% of Welt’s ATK as Imaginary DMG to a target enemy. Welt’s 2nd ability Edge of the Void states the following – “Slash the enemy 3 times, each dealing 30% of Welt’s ATK as Imaginary DMG to a random target. When the attack hits, there is a 50% base chance to reduce the target’s speed by 20 for 2 turn(s).” His ultimate ability Synthetic Black Hole is an AOE-targeted damaging skill which deals 48% of Welt’s ATK as Imaginary DMG to all enemies. There is a 100% base chance for the enemies hit by this ability to be inflicted with Imprisonment. Imprisoned enemies’ action will be delayed by 30% and they take 20% more DMG.

BRONYA

Bronya is a 5-Star Wind elemental character that is classified as part of the Harmony class of heroes. Bronya’s hero description reads the following – “As a Concard, Bronya Supports the team by applying buff to the team.” Her 1st basic ability Windrider Bullet is a single targeted damaging skill that deals 50% of Bronya’s ATK as Wind DMG to a target enemy. Use their abilities at the right time to turn the tide of battle.” Herta’s basic ability What Are You Looking At? is a single targeted damaging skill that seals Ice DMG equal to 50% of Herta’s ATK to a target enemy. Her 2nd ability One-Time Offer states the following – “Deals 55% of Herta’s ATK as Ice DMG to all enemies. If a target’s HP is 50% or higher. DMG dealt to this target is increased by 20%.” Herta’s ultimate ability It’s Magic, I Added Some Magic is an AOE-targeted damaging skill that deals Ice DMG equal to 120% of Herta’s ATK to all enemies.

ASTA

Asta is a 4-Star Fire elemental character that is classified as part of the Harmony class of heroes. Asta’s hero description reads the following – “Asta is the Lead Researcher of the Space Station brims with enthusiastic curiosity and boasts unimaginable achievement in the field of astronomy. She is capable of taking on workloads meant for dozens of people with ease, including commanding and maintaining the Space Station. Despite her outstanding work capabilities, she is completely incapable of looking after herself. This doesn’t bother her one bit, though; in fact, she even uses it as a point of pride and proof that she has distributed the workload to the Space Station’s staff reasonably.” Her basic ability Spectrum Beam is a single targeted damaging skill that deals 50% of Asta’s ATK as Fire DMG to a target enemy. Asta’s 2nd ability Meteor Storm states the following – “Deal 25% of Asta’s ATK as Fire DMG to a target enemy and bombard the enemies 4 more times. Each bombardment will deal 25% of Asta’s ATK as Fire DMG to a random enemy.” Asta’s ultimate ability Astral Blessing is a great supportive skill which states that Actions of all allies will be advanced forward by 25%. In addition, the buff from Asta’s Talent Astrometry will apply to all allies for 2 turn(s).

HOOK

Hook is a 4-Star Fire elemental character that is classified as part of the Destruction class of heroes. Hook’s hero description reads the following – “Who am I? Heh, I’m the boss around here, you can call me… Pitch-Dark Hook the Great! Don’t underestimate her, she’s the boss of The Moles adventure squad! If you stand out on your adventure, maybe Pitch-Dark Hook the Great will invite you to join The Moles. You’ll have to find out for yourself what kind of experience that would be~” Hook’s basic ability Hehe! Don’t Get Burned! is a single targeted damaging skill that deals 50% of Hook’s ATK as Fire DMG to a target enemy. His 2nd ability Hey! Remember Hook? states the following – “Deal 120% of Hook’s ATK as Fire DMG to a target enemy. In addition, there is a 100% base chance to inflict Burn for 2 turn(s). While burned, enemies will take 25% of Hook’s ATK as Fire DMG at the start of each turn.” Hook’s ultimate ability Boom! Here Comes the Fire! is a single targeted damaging skill that deals 240% of Hook’s ATK as Fire DMG to a target enemy. The next time Skill is used, it will also hit enemies adjacent to the target.

DANHENG

Danheng is a 4-Star Wind elemental character that is classified as part of the Hunt class of heroes. Danheng’s hero description reads the following – “A cold and reserved young man who wields a spear known as Cloud-Piercer. He acts as the train’s guard on its long Trailblaze journey. He carefully observes the changes in everything around him, albeit with a calm demeanor that may appear to be indifferent. He faithfully records everything they encounter on the Trailblaze path in the Express’s archives.” Danheng’s basic skill North Wind is a single targeted damaging skill that deals Wind DMG equal to 50% of Danheng’s ATK to a target enemy. His 2nd ability Torrent states the following – “Deal Wind DMG equal to 50% of Danheng’s ATK to a target enemy. Deal 120% of Danheng’s ATK as Wind DMG to a target enemy. On a CRIT Hit, there is a 100% base chance to reduce the target’s speed by 20 for 2 turn(s).” Danheng’s ultimate ability Ethereal Dream is a single targeted damaging ability that deals 216% of Danheng’s ATK as Wind DMG to a target enemy. If the target is Slowed, Danheng’s Ultimate’s DMG Multiplier will increase by 72%.

Pela is a 4-Star Ice elemental character that is classified as part of the Nihilty class of heroes. Pela’s hero description reads the following – “The meticulous Intelligence Officer of the Silvermane Guards, while young, she is undeniably brilliant.
