Exploring the Johto Region in Pokémon TCG Pocket
This expansion pays homage to the beloved Johto region, with the Legendary Pokémon Lugia and Ho-Oh as its mascots. They are joined by Johto’s first-partner trio—Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile—alongside fan-favorite Trainers like Silver and Lyra. The inclusion of Johto marks a major milestone for TCG Pocket, expanding the game’s lore and providing a wave of nostalgic yet competitive content.
Players will also encounter baby Pokémon such as Pichu and Cleffa, which bring fresh strategies with cost-free effects like extra energy attachment and card draw. The update not only adds quantity but also quality, with innovative mechanics that encourage new deck-building approaches.
Legendary Pokémon and New Pokémon ex Cards
The highlight of Wisdom of Sea and Sky is undoubtedly its new Pokémon ex cards, which are expected to define the meta in upcoming months.
- Lugia ex: A powerhouse with 150 HP. Its Elemental Blast deals a massive 180 damage, requiring Fire, Water, and Lightning Energy.
- Ho-Oh ex: With Phoenix Turbo, Ho-Oh can deal 80 damage while accelerating Fire, Water, and Lightning Energy to your Bench, making it a perfect partner to set up Lugia ex.
- Umbreon ex: Known for its Dark Chase ability, allowing you to pull a damaged opponent’s Pokémon into the Active slot. Its Darkness Fang packs a solid 80 damage.
- Espeon ex: A supportive Psychic card with Psychic Healing, healing 30 damage from one of your Pokémon each turn, plus Super Psy Bolt for 80 damage.
- Shiny Red Gyarados: A collector’s gem and strategic powerhouse. Its Wild Swing can scale damage significantly by discarding Water Pokémon from your Bench.
These cards add strategic depth, with Lugia and Ho-Oh forming a synergy engine, while Umbreon and Espeon provide tactical disruption and healing support.
Innovative Mechanics: Pokémon with No Energy Attacks
Another standout feature is the introduction of Pokémon whose attacks require no Energy at all. These cards give players faster, cost-free options in early game scenarios, diversifying strategies and making matches more dynamic. For collectors and competitors alike, this marks a groundbreaking shift in how decks can be constructed.
Revamped Trading System
Alongside the new expansion, Pokémon TCG Pocket is rolling out a complete overhaul of its trading system.
- Shinedust Replaces Trade Tokens: Trade Tokens will be discontinued. Shinedust, obtainable through duplicate cards, missions, and achievements, will now be required to trade 3 Star rarity and above. Importantly, the amount of Shinedust gained from duplicate cards has been doubled.
- Wishlist Feature: Players can now create a Wishlist of up to 20 cards, with three highlighted on their profile. This improves transparency and makes trades smoother, allowing you to show fellow trainers what you’re seeking most.
- Transition Details: Existing Trade Tokens can still be redeemed for pack hourglasses and Shinedust in the Shop, but traditional card-for-card trades via the old system will no longer be possible after July 30.
This update not only modernizes trading but also empowers collectors and competitors to more efficiently pursue the cards they want. If you’d like to learn more about the trading system in the game, check out our Trading Guide for Pokémon TCG Pocket!
