Multitask effortlessly on your PC or Mac as you try out Cantonese Guru, a Education app by Xamisoft on BlueStacks.
Cantonese Guru feels more like a serious study kit than a flashy language game, but in a good way. It centers everything around word lists. Someone can pick from ready lists, download sets from common textbooks, or type in their own Cantonese words and it fills in meanings and characters. The smart lists track mistakes and push those items back to the top, so reviews actually target what needs work. Learning sessions rotate through writing, translation both directions, tones, and pronunciation, so it covers the parts that usually get ignored. The writing practice has proper stroke order for a huge set of characters, and tracing with a mouse on BlueStacks is surprisingly neat on a bigger screen.
It supports Traditional and Simplified, plus proper Cantonese characters. Jyutping or Yale can be toggled, and the tone work really leans into the six tones without feeling too punishing. The dictionary is beefy, over a hundred thousand entries, and search works from English, Cantonese, Jyutping or Yale. There is also radical search and a draw-to-find tool for unknown characters, with history and favorites to keep track of things. The reading section lets someone load a text, tap words to see details, and throw them into a custom list for later drills, which is very handy.
There are lots of extras tucked in the reference area, like transcription tables, numbers and dates, colors and shapes, measurement units, common expressions and chengyu, character frequency and radicals. Content is labeled from A1 up to C2 and there are TOCFL style tags, so it scales from total beginner to people who want advanced polish. It is not very game-like, more structured and a bit nerdy, which makes sense for Cantonese. Some parts sit behind a subscription, there is a trial, and it renews unless someone cancels, so worth checking that. On PC with BlueStacks it runs smooth and the big monitor makes the dictionary and reading view way easier to live in for an hour.
Switch to BlueStacks and make the most of your apps on your PC or Mac.
