Monster’s Curse has this cool setup where you basically find yourself in a mysterious village full of monsters after your best friend suddenly vanishes. You were both drifting through life with no real goals, and then things take a sharp turn once you start following clues and land in this new place where humans are definitely not common. The monsters instantly figure out you’re not one of them and, well, you get tossed into a cell before anything else can happen. That’s where the story picks up — meeting Riko, the leader, who’s tough and definitely not quick to trust. She’s got that classic serious front, but there’s also a lot going on below the surface with her role in the village and losing her dad early.
The monsters in this village are all their own kind of interesting. There’s Misora, probably the most lighthearted of the bunch, even if she doesn’t always have it together. She’s the type who brings some balance, but she’s also not to be underestimated — when things get real, she’s actually the strongest around. Yumi is more mysterious, basically fox spirit royalty, and she’s got her own history and motives, especially with this dagger story that ties back to her family.
The gameplay feels like a visual novel mixed with some choices that affect how the story goes, so if conversations, exploring, and getting into character backstories is your thing, there’s a lot to like. Playing it on PC through BlueStacks is pretty smooth, and it’s nice not being stuck to a phone screen. The story keeps you guessing, especially as you learn what actually happened to your friend and how you’re going to deal with these quirky but sometimes dangerous monsters. There’s tension with being the outsider but also plenty of moments where the personalities really start to shine through as you figure out what role you play in their village.
