You may have played Battle Through the Heavens before, but have you tried the 2D version? Developed by 37 Mobile, this mobile RPG takes place in the same universe and features the same characters, but it plays quite differently. New mechanics mean there are new things to learn, and if you want to get a solid start in the game, the information we’ll share in this guide is just what you need. Let’s dive into the Battle Through the Heavens 2D together!

Base Mechanics: Replace, Disassemble or Devour

Battle Through the Heavens 2D gets off to a very fast start: you see your character fighting on the top of the screen, while a cauldron (flame cauldron) is located at the bottom. The basic gameplay is actually quite simple:

  • Your character plays on its own at the top of the screen. You cannot control it – it will keep running and attacking any enemies it encounters.
  • The only thing you can do is give them better gear and upgrade their skill levels to increase their chances of success. In this context, the flame cauldron is your primary source for obtaining gear.

  • You will see 10 slots just above the cauldron: think of these as gear slots.
  • When you click on the cauldron a few times, new gear will appear: if you decide to use (devour) it, it will automatically be placed in one of these slots.

So, what if you get gear that is useless to you? Or, what can you do if you get gear that is better than what you already have? “Disassemble” allows you to destroy unwanted gear in exchange for XP and gold. You can use the “Replace” option to place a better gear into an already occupied slot when you find one. In this case, the old gear in that slot will automatically be disassembled.

Getting Better Gear

So, for a large part of the gameplay, you’ll be constantly clicking on the flame cauldron trying to find new gear. But how do you know if a piece of gear is better? This is something you can easily determine by looking at the BP score. If the BP score is displayed in green in the upper right corner, it’s better. Conversely, if it’s displayed in red, it’s worse. So, you should give your hero any gear with a green BP score.

The problem is that the gear given by the cauldron has a quality limit, meaning that after a certain point, it will stop giving you gear that increases your BP score. In this case, you need to increase the cauldron’s level. You can do this by clicking the LV button right next to it. You need gold to increase the cauldron’s level, and each increase requires a certain amount of time to pass. Collecting gold isn’t difficult, and you can speed up the time limit using different items. Of course, both will become increasingly difficult as you progress, but at least you don’t need to worry about this until the cauldron reaches level 10.

Upgrading Skills

Your hero can equip up to 5 skills at the same time. They decide which ones to use and when, but you can determine which ones they can equip. To do this, simply go to the Skill screen and choose from the 28 options listed. You will automatically unlock most skills upon completing a specific stage in story mode.

However, don’t forget that you need to upgrade each skill too. At the beginning of the game, you can simply use the “Quick Upgrade” option on the same screen for this task. This option upgrades all your skills as long as you have sufficient resources. But as you progress, you will need to use more resources for each upgrade and focus on specific skills. You can also upgrade manually by clicking on the skill you have selected.

Getting Help from Partners

In the world of Battle Through the Heavens 2D, you’re not fighting alone: shortly after you start playing, the partner feature will become active. These are characters who join you on the battlefield and attack enemies alongside you. To obtain them, you need to perform summons, and gacha mechanics are used for this purpose. So, which partner you get is down to chance, but you can increase your chances after performing enough summons.

You can battle with a total of 5 partners at the same time, but don’t forget that you need to upgrade them too. Some partners have complementary bonuses and can create synergy, which becomes increasingly important as you progress through the game.

Complete Dungeons for a Quick Boost

When the Dungeon feature is unlocked, you can perform a “sweep” six times a day to collect valuable rewards. Dungeons are no different from the main game in terms of gameplay, but the currency and materials needed to summon and improve your cauldron’s gear are primarily collected from them. Therefore, if you find yourself stuck in the game and unable to progress further, you can clear the dungeons to get a boost – we recommend doing this every day and multiple times.

Finally, as always, we recommend using BlueStacks to play Battle Through the Heavens 2D this way, you can get a much more enjoyable experience by playing on your PC and automate many of the game’s mechanics using tools like the Macro Recorder.
