Chaos Zero Nightmare Character Guide All Characters, Classes, Attributes, and Best Picks

Chaos Zero Nightmare characters, called Combatants in game, shape almost everything about a run. Each one adds their own cards, Ego Skill, and playstyle to the shared deck, so knowing who does what makes team building far easier. This Chaos Zero Nightmare character guide covers every Combatant available, how classes and attributes work, the strongest picks right now, and the new faces arriving with Season 5.
How Characters are Classified in Chaos Zero Nightmare
Chaos Zero Nightmare is a roguelike deckbuilder from Super Creative and Smilegate, and every battle is fought by a team of three Combatants. Their cards are shuffled into one deck, so a team is really three card pools working together. Combatants come in 4 Star and 5 Star rarities, and each one belongs to a class and an attribute.

Here is what every Combatant brings to the table:
- Starting Cards: Usually a basic attack, a basic Shield or Heal card, and a signature card that defines their kit.
- Unique Cards: Extra cards unlocked through Epiphany during Chaos runs, which can also evolve with new effects.
- Ego Skill: A powerful once per battle skill paid for with Ego Points.
- Partner Slot: A Partner works like a weapon, adding stats, a class based passive, and a second Ego Skill.
Combatants also belong to story factions such as Terrascion, Stella Familia, Ironrain, Peltion, The Holy Crusaders, and Wanderer. Factions matter more for the story than for combat.
Chaos Zero Nightmare Character Classes Explained
There are six classes in Chaos Zero Nightmare. A class sets a Combatant’s base stats and decides which Partner passives they can use, since every Partner passive is locked to one class.
- Striker: Frontline attackers built around big hits and combos, like Haru, Rin, Yuki, and Arabella.
- Vanguard: The tanks of the game, with the highest HP and Defense but the lowest Attack. Khalipe, Magna, Nine, and Adelheid keep the team alive with Shields.
- Ranger: The highest Attack and the lowest survivability. Most Rangers, like Hugo, Heidemarie, and Selena, deal damage through Extra Attacks.
- Hunter: Quick damage dealers that chain cheap attacks, often with Bullet cards. Luke, Diana, Renoa, and Sereniel fall here.
- Psionic: Experts in damage over time effects like Agony and Fracture, along with unique card engines. Tressa, Olga, Kayron, and Tenebria are Psionics.
- Controller: The support class. Mika, Nia, Cassius, Narja, and Tiphera generate AP, draw cards, heal, and buff allies.

Chaos Zero Nightmare Attributes and Weakness Breaks
Every Combatant has one of five attributes: Passion, Order, Justice, Void, or Instinct. Enemies show the attribute they are weak to right next to their action counter. When a Combatant hits an enemy with an attack of the matching attribute, it deals a large chunk of Tenacity damage, and higher cost cards chip the bar down even faster.

Once the Tenacity bar breaks, the team gets 1 AP back, some Stress is cleared, and the enemy’s next action is delayed. That makes attribute coverage a big deal in harder content. In the early Chaos zones, for example, Passion Combatants do well in the Blue Pot, while Order and Justice Combatants shine in the Swamp of Judgment.
Attributes also matter for upgrades, since each attribute needs its own type of Growth Stone to unlock Potential nodes.
Best Chaos Zero Nightmare Characters Right Now
The picks below follow current community rankings for endgame Save Data content as of late September 2026. Rankings shift with every season, so treat them as a guide rather than a strict rule.

Top Damage Dealers
Heidemarie sits at the top of the damage charts. She creates Effulgent Blade cards that fire Extra Attacks whenever they are discarded, then cashes all of them in with Effulgent Release for one huge hit. Selena shares the top spot despite being a 4 Star. Her Mark stacks, applied with cards like High Power Scope, fuel a steady stream of Extra Attacks from the sidelines.
Right behind them are Diana, Haru, Hilde, Hugo, Sereniel, and Tenebria. Haru is the pick for raw single target burst thanks to Anchor Shot, which grows stronger every time it is used. Sereniel builds long combos by breaking enemies and pulling Homing Laser cards back into her hand, while Tenebria turns basic attacks into Rhythm cards that stack damage as they chain together.

Top Supports
Cassius and Nia lead the support picks, and both are 4 Stars. Cassius brings steady card draw, healing, and the ability to search the deck for a specific card. Nia cycles through the deck quickly, plays cards from the Draw Pile for cheap, and makes allies fire off Extra Attacks.
Narja and Veronica follow closely. Narja uses Voracity and Predation to keep the team healthy while boosting damage, and Veronica’s Repose card draws cards from other Combatants to keep combos flowing. Tiphera, Adelheid, Rei, and the new Anika are also great picks depending on the team.
New and Upcoming Chaos Zero Nightmare Characters
Season 5, A Promise Upon the Snow, starts on October 21, 2026, right alongside the first anniversary. It brings three new 5 Star Combatants, and all of them use the Justice attribute.

- Rossweisse (Justice Striker): The first anniversary seasonal Combatant, arriving October 21 with her Partner Sig. Her Light and Dark cards react to card plays, then merge into one powerful finisher once they are the only cards left in hand.
- Blazebell (Justice Controller): A fire user from the Sileima faction who supports the team with AP, card draw, and damage boosts through the new Binding and Purity effects. Her banner with Partner Vivian is expected on November 11.
- Dahlia (Justice, class TBA): Uses Binding to fuse different cards into one heavy blow. Her banner with Partner Edelyn is expected on December 2.
- Anika (4 Star Order Striker): The newest 4 Star, built to buff teams that Ravage often. She is currently featured on the Sereniel rerun banner until October 21.
How to Get Characters in Chaos Zero Nightmare
New players get a starter team of Owen, Mika, and Rei through the story, plus a guaranteed Tressa from the tutorial pull. All four are 4 Stars, and Mika in particular stays useful long after the early game. Everything else comes from Rescues, which is what the game calls its gacha pulls.

- Special Rescue Request: The beginner banner. It allows 50 pulls in total, guarantees one 5 Star, and every 10 pull costs only 8 Rescue Anchors.
- Amplified Distress Signal: Rate up banners that use Signal Amplification Anchors. Losing the 50/50 guarantees the featured 5 Star next time.
- Combatant Rescue: The standard banner, which uses Rescue Anchors.
- Memory Archive: Duplicates give Moments of the Radiant Hero, which can buy extra pulls and 5 Star Memory Codes.
The Combatant banners share the same core rates. The 5 Star chance starts at 1%, climbs by 4.5% per pull from pull 58, and hits a guaranteed 5 Star at pull 70. A 4 Star Combatant or Partner is guaranteed every 10 pulls, and a single pull costs 160 Crystals.
How to Make Chaos Zero Nightmare Characters Stronger
Pulling a character is only the first step. Each Combatant grows through several systems:
- Level and Promotion: Battle Memories and Units raise levels, while class based materials unlock a Promotion every 10 levels.
- Potential: A skill tree with nodes 1 through 7 that boosts card values and stats. It uses attribute based Growth Stones, and later nodes need weekly boss drops.
- Manifest Ego: Six upgrades unlocked with duplicates. Some change how a character plays, like Heidemarie’s Crimson Blade or Diana’s Flutters at Ego 2.
- Partners: Equip a Partner of the same class to get its passive, stats, and an extra Ego Skill.
- Memory Fragments: Gear pieces that add stats, farmed from Memory Fragment Tactical Training.
- Save Data: A saved build from a Chaos run, including the deck and Equipment found along the way, which is used in endgame stages.
