Characters

In Disney Magic Kingdoms, there are over 200 characters and heroes from beloved franchises that you can collect and welcome into your own Disneyland.

All available characters can be viewed in the character book. The book is categorized according to the respective franchises of the characters, so you’ll see familiar titles like Toy Story, Pinocchio, Cinderella, Star Wars, and much more. There are two ways to welcome new characters into your Disneyland: the free way and the paid way.

Many characters can be unlocked by playing the game. You first need to complete certain kingdom quests to make them available in the character book. Once unlocked, you must obtain a certain number of “tokens” to finally welcome them. Tokens are special items that are heavily tied to the character which can be obtained by completing character activities, opening chests, and the like.

Some characters can only be unlocked either through paid bundles or through legendary chests. For instance, Pluto, who is Mickey Mouse’s pet dog, can only be acquired by purchasing the Pluto bundle for 3.99 USD. Some characters can only be obtained by chance when you purchase a legendary chest which can cost at least 30 gems or 9.99 USD. Characters from Pinocchio, Brave, Winnie the Pooh, Mulan, and other franchises can only be obtained by purchasing their respective legendary chests.

Buildings and Attractions

Real-life Disneylands are known for their myriad of beautifully constructed buildings that look like they came straight from a fairy tale book. In your own digital Disneyland, you can have those kinds of buildings as well – more specifically over 170 of them.

Buildings in Disney Magic Kingdoms are categorized into Attractions, Concessions, and Decorations. Attractions are themed rides or buildings that are often used by characters to conduct quests or activities. Examples of these are the Mickey’s Fun Wheel, Pluto’s House, RC Racers, and the like. Concessions are food and drinks stands that you can place to take care of your guests. Examples of these are the Pancake Milkshake Stand, Pot of Honey Stand, Ramen Concession, and the like. Decorations, as the name implies, are decorative items like fountains and statues that you can build to make your Disneyland prettier.

Attractions and concessions bring utility by passively generating resources that you can use to improve the amusement park. Attractions generate magic, EXP, and tokens whereas concessions only generate magic and EXP. Oftentimes, attractions generate more output at a time compared to concessions. The number of resources that a concession generates depends on its rarity. The rarity of a concession can be Legendary, Epic, Rare, Uncommon, and Common.

How can one acquire more buildings? New attractions can be bought in the in-game shop for magic or gems. Some kingdom quests will require you to buy a new attraction. Concessions and decorations can only be obtained by chance by purchasing concession chests (60 gems) and decorations chests (20 gems) respectively. You can also buy a concession chest bundle (300 gems) and a decoration chest bundle (100 gems) to get six items for the price of just five.

You can relocate buildings by holding left-click on them to enter edit mode. In edit mode, you can place the building somewhere else and even rotate them for as long as all grids stay green. You may also temporarily store the building which helps you organize your Disneyland better.

You can expand your Disneyland and unlock more space by clearing areas that were cursed by Maleficent. You can only clear a cursed area when you unlock a quest that requires you to do so.

Currencies and Resources

To manage and improve your Disneyland, you’re going to need various resources. Plenty of these currencies or resources can be obtained from buildings or can be purchased from microtransactions.

  • EXP – this is used to increase your own player level. You can view your current player level by looking at the yellow star on the top left of the screen.
  • Magic – this is the main currency of the game which you can use to welcome characters, upgrade characters, purchase buildings, start float parades, and the like. This can primarily be obtained by collecting passive income from buildings.
  • Gems – this is the premium currency of the game which allows you to buy special buildings and chests. Having plenty of gems can give you a great advantage in terms of the items that you can unlock quickly.
  • Tokens – these are items heavily tied to certain characters. You need to collect a certain number of tokens to welcome or upgrade a character. These can be collected from the passive income of buildings.

Quests

To progress through the story or unlock improvements for your Disneyland, you must accomplish quests.

Quests can be found on the left part of the screen. Main quests, also known as kingdom quests, can be identified by a yellow background whereas the side quests can be identified by a blue-green background. Note that some main quests require the character to be at a certain level first so you may need to upgrade them first.

Activities are various actions that each character can do to generate magic, EXP, and sometimes tokens. A lot of quests require you to make characters do activities. Activities take a lot of time to accomplish (i.e., 1 hour) but you can address this by spending gems to finish the activity instantly or using time boosts to shorten the activity time.
