Dead Rails, created by RCM Games, is a thrilling post-apocalyptic survival experience on Roblox. Your mission? Traverse 80 km by steam locomotive from the plague-ravaged U.S. to Mexico, collecting fuel, weapons, and resources. All the while, defend yourself from zombies, outlaws, werewolves, vampires, and even bosses like Nikola Tesla. This guide is for those who are brave enough to complete the journey solo, ensuring you’re prepared for every challenge the rails throw at you.

Choosing a Train

Now, if you’re playing Dead Rails for the first time, it might not be a good idea to try solo as it is much more difficult. Even if you are, then we would recommend choosing the default train. Once you’ve accumulated enough Bonds, you can purchase other advanced trains. If you despise people leaping off trains and having to stop every time, The Cattle Car might be for you. If you like to play defensively and attack while being safe from entities, the Armored Train might be for you, as it is bulletproof and only requires two sheets of metal to allow players to enter.

How to Start Your Solo Run in Dead Rails

First and foremost, all players, regardless if they are solo or not, start the game with only their train and a gold bar. Sell the gold bar by simply bringing it to the table on the trading post for some gold. You should be getting approximately $50 for that. Next, buy some coal from the general store. This coal will be useful in refueling the train. It also helps if you pick up some newspaper from the store that are lying around as they can also be used to fuel the train. In general, a single block of coal fuels the train up to a quarter.

The key to winning solo is to make sure you reach a safe zone before night time hits as tougher enemies tend to show up. It also helps if you have enough fuel before leaving a safe zone. As the train starts, do not try to look for loot in the middle as it is a high-risk high-reward type of scenario, something we are actively avoiding for a successful solo run. Time quite literally flies in Dead Rails as each 20 seconds passed during the train ride is equal to an hour passing in the game. Night time hits when the clock on your train shows 9 PM.

On your first safe zone, make sure to take out any werewolves or zombies that are lurking just outside the fortress. The church will keep you safe, and away from harm’s way. In the trading post, you can exchange any dropped werewolf or zombie bodies for fuel that can be used to power the train. If you managed to kill any outlaws, you can even report their bodies to the sheriff’s office for some extra cash. You can use the cash to buy some bulletproof vests for your train to survive the nighttime’s much better. Repeat the same process for the next few safe zones, and try to buy yourself a gun and some armor for the train.

Focus on the Zombie Nights

In Dead Rails, when the nighttime hits, there are either 3 of the following enemies that spawn: zombies, vampires, and werewolves. If there are zombies outside, you can go ahead and take the risk of killing some as they drop coal which can be used to refuel the train, and effectively make the journey much easier. Avoid trying to fight against vampires and werewolves as they are not worth the effort to kill since they only drop items you can sell for money. Albeit, the money can be well spent on the next safe zone, but it’s considered risky in general.
