WWE Champions: Wrestling RPG At first glance, WWE Champions: Wrestling RPG looks like an ordinary match-3 puzzle game, but first impressions can be deceiving. There are several mechanics you need to know to collect new wrestlers and win matches quickly, and these make the classic match-3 gameplay quite interesting and exciting. In this guide, you’ll find everything new players need to know, and if you check out the latest codes to claim free rewards before you begin, you can get off to a quick start in the game.

Selecting Wrestlers and Unlocking New Ones

When you start the game, only three wrestlers will be unlocked, and you’ll begin with John Cena by default. After completing a few matches with him, you can switch to other wrestlers and unlock the rest over time. There are two main ways to get a new wrestler:

  • You can purchase them with real money from the in-game store. As you might expect, this is the fastest option.
  • You can try to add a wrestler to your roster by collecting the loot you earn as you win matches.

Loot is RNG-based, meaning whether you get a wrestler (and which one) is entirely determined by chance. If you’re after a specific wrestler and aren’t lucky enough, you might have to play for weeks.

Basic Mechanics: Match-3 Gameplay

You can start your first match with John Cena right away, and as you can see, the bottom half of the screen is dedicated to match-3 gameplay. If you’ve played a game like Candy Crush before, you already know how this works.

You need to match jewels of the same color vertically or horizontally to clear them from the game board. To create a combination, you need a set of at least three jewels, and the more you increase that number, the better.

However, the match-3 gameplay is just the beginning and doesn’t guarantee you’ll win matches on its own. Look at the top of the screen: you’ll see two wrestlers moving slowly in a 3D ring. To make them perform a move, you need to create a match-3 combination. For example, if you match three blue gems, your wrestler will attack the opponent.

Then it’s your opponent’s turn, and they do the same. Every successfully completed match-3 combination triggers a basic attack and reduces a certain portion of the HP bar.

For example, in the screenshot above, we see that our opponent has 1,568 HP. After an attack, we can see this number drop to 1,250. Our goal, as you might guess, is to reduce the opponent’s HP bar to zero. So, how is the damage from our attacks determined?

Different Gems Have Different Damage Values

On the match 3 screen, you’ll see gems of different colors, red, blue, yellow, green… The wrestler you’re controlling at that moment has certain “favorite” colors. For example, John Cena loves “red” the most and deals 150 damage with combinations made with that color.

However, he doesn’t care for “blue”: blue jewel combinations deal only 79 damage. If you tap on your wrestler’s portrait, you can see which color combinations you should focus on.

Another way to reduce your opponent’s health is to perform “special attacks”. Once you’ve created enough combinations from a specific color, you’ll be able to perform a special attack. Each wrestler has different special attacks, and each requires collecting different color combinations.

For example, John Cena has three special attacks based on combinations of yellow, red, and green jewels. After collecting 7 red jewels, you can use an attack called “Five Knuckle Shuffle,” which allows you to deal significantly more damage to your opponent compared to basic attacks.

You can see the special attack shortcuts just below and to the left of your wrestler, displayed as differently colored boxes. When one starts to glow, it means the special attack is ready to use. You should use these attacks as soon as they become active because, in most cases, there’s no benefit to waiting. In fact, the sooner you use them, the better, because once a special attack is used, it starts to recharge, meaning it can be used multiple times in a single match.

Knockout Meter: The Key to Winning Matches

This might come as a surprise, but reducing your opponent’s HP bar to zero doesn’t guarantee a win. To win a match, just like in real WWE, you need to take them down and keep their back on the mat for a certain amount of time. This is a “finisher move,” and two things are required to perform it: an HP bar that’s been reduced to zero + a knockout meter filled with your own color.

You can see this meter right below the 3D ring. It consists of a total of 22 squares, with the left side representing your color and the right side representing your rival’s. When a match starts, 11 squares will be filled with your color, and the remaining 11 with your opponent’s. As you perform basic and special attacks, you can fill more squares with your own color. For example, each basic attack fills 3 more squares in your favor.

This applies to your opponent as well: their attacks will also fill more squares on the meter with their color. To perform a knockout move, you must first reduce your opponent’s health to zero, then fill the entire meter with your color. Once you’ve done both, you win the match.

It is also possible to perform a finisher move before the knockout meter is full (your opponent will occasionally do this as well), but we don’t recommend wasting time on this. If the knockout meter isn’t fully filled, your opponent can escape by completing a single match-3 combination, and doing so is very easy. Therefore, your primary goal should be to first reduce the HP bar to zero, then completely fill the knockout meter with your own color.

No matter which wrestler you play as, these core gameplay mechanics will not change. You’ll be able to unlock new features that grant various bonuses, but the gameplay will remain the same. Therefore, by using the information here, you can enjoy a smooth experience throughout the entire game.
