Players pick one of six races, expand from a humble home system, and try to steer a whole quadrant through politics, trade, research, and the occasional fleet slugfest. It is not flashy. The fun sits in planning a few turns ahead, scouting star lanes for a decent world, balancing industry and food, then nudging neighbors toward friendship or forcing the issue with a blockade.
