AFK Journey is an idle RPG from Farlight Games in which you recruit heroes from rival factions and build squads for story progression, Dream Realm boss fights, and PvP arenas. The game is now in its eighth season, Veil of Memories, which began on September 23, 2026 and added Senea, Aster, and Estrilda to the roster. How This Tier List Is Ranked

Each placement reflects how well a hero performs across the three types of content that matter most for long term progress. A hero who dominates one mode but struggles in the others sits below a hero who stays useful everywhere.

• AFK Stages: pushing the campaign under a power deficit, where crowd control, sustain, and area damage carry teams.
• Dream Realm: single boss fights, including Endless difficulty, where focused damage, buffs, and HP loss effects matter most.
• PvP: Arena and Supreme Arena, where survivability, control, and how quickly a hero reaches their win condition decide fights.

S+ Tier Heroes

These heroes define the current meta and are worth investing in for almost every account.

Rolan

Rolan is an S-Level Celestial Support who arrived in Version 1.7.3 on August 6, 2026, and he is currently the strongest hero in AFK Journey. His kit revolves around team Morale, which grows whenever an ally casts an Ultimate or defeats an enemy, and every 20% Morale raises all allies’ ATK. His Ultimate, Oath in the Stone, cleanses debuffs and grants a large heal. One copy is enough for AFK Stages and Dream Realm, while PvP players should aim for Supreme+.

Contess

Contess is an S-Level Hypogean Support who controls fights through school rules. Her Ultimate, Detention Pass, hides her in her rulebook to recover Energy before she emerges to heal an ally and grant Exemption, which turns some of their HP into a shield and raises their ATK. Enemies who break her rules lose max HP and Energy recovery, and at Mythic+ repeat offenders are permanently silenced. She is a premier Dream Realm and PvP support.

Senea

Senea is an S-Level Graveborn Marksman who joined in Season 8 as one of its best damage dealers. Her normal attacks mesmerize enemies, and defeated mesmerized enemies return as spectral spectators that restore her HP and Energy. Her Ultimate, Grave Crescendo, turns her normal attacks into true damage hits based on the target’s max HP. From EX+10 she keeps attacking in spirit form after defeat during her solo performance, making her especially dangerous in PvP.

Gunnar

Gunnar is an S-Level Hypogean Tank built to empower a single carry. At the start of battle, he creates a Doomfield on the ally one tile behind him, raising that ally’s range and ATK. His Ultimate, Annihilation Directive, launches a Doomsday Meteor that sets the ground on fire and lowers enemy Vitality, while Absolute Defense shields every ally behind him. He shines brightest in Dream Realm.

Frieren

Frieren is an S-Level Dimensional Mage who excels in boss content. Fifteen seconds into battle, she amplifies her magic for 60% more damage and halves the cooldown of Hellfire: Vollzanbel, which inflicts heavy HP loss and Vitality reduction. Her Ultimate, Zoltraak, splits a large burst of true damage among every enemy hit, so a lone boss takes the full amount. Pairing her with Himmel cuts her ramp up time to five seconds.

S Tier Heroes

These heroes fall just short of S+ Tier because of a weaker mode or a heavy investment requirement.

Elijah and Lailah

Elijah and Lailah are an S-Level Celestial Support who fight as two units sharing one HP and Energy pool. Their Ultimate, Starlight Waltz, grants every ally a large Haste bonus, while Stellar Bond restores Energy and HP to allies standing on the line between them. They remain top Dream Realm supports. Their shared HP pool makes them fragile, so they need Supreme+ and EX+15.

Gwyneth

Gwyneth is an S-Level Lightbearer Marksman with slow but very heavy normal attacks. Her three step attack cycle burns and lowers the Vitality of her target, then releases a lightning splash that silences the main target and stuns nearby enemies. Her eight tile range keeps her safe in PvP, though divers such as Athalia can shut her down.

Aster

Aster is an S-Level Hypogean Mage who arrived alongside Senea in Season 8. His Ultimate, Stellar Flare, summons Stars that damage and stun enemies, and at Mythic+ three Stars convert into Black Holes that deal true damage and drain enemy ATK and Haste. He is an exceptional PvP pick, though Ultimate interrupters such as Lily May can counter him.

Saida

Saida is an S-Level Hypogean Rogue and one of the best stall carries in the game. Her Ultimate, Seed Siphon, deals heavy damage, drains Energy, and plants a Drain Seed that keeps damaging its host. Revenant Sprout lets her revive at a Drain Seed whenever she is defeated. She excels at high deficit AFK Stages and PvP stall teams, but her boss damage is weak.

Solise

Solise is an S-Level Wilder Support who powers up one hero while keeping the team healed. She gives every ally a healing Bulb that blooms into a Bulbsprite after storing enough excess healing, permanently raising that ally’s ATK even if Solise falls. She performs well in both Dream Realm and PvP.

A Tier Heroes

These heroes are strong in specific modes and remain worthwhile investments.

Silven

Silven is an A-Level Lightbearer Marksman who performs like a much rarer hero in AFK Stages. His Ultimate, Aloft Edge, summons six flying blades that fire with his normal attacks, and blades passing through his Tempered Field deal extra true damage based on max HP. He is fragile and loses his field when displaced, which limits him in PvP.

Mehira

Mehira is an S-Level Hypogean Mage who disrupts enemies the moment battle begins. Alluring Mirage bewitches every enemy and drags them toward an illusion, and her Ultimate, Euphoric Rush, charms enemies caught in its final blast. She is outstanding in high deficit AFK Stages and PvP, but bosses resist most of her control, so she offers little in Dream Realm.

Hugin

Hugin is an A-Level Lightbearer Support who excels at pushing AFK Stages. His Ultimate, Unstoppable!, boosts the ATK and Haste of the ally with the highest damage, while Titan’s Aegis shields the weakest ally. An ally on the tile behind him gains ATK and Energy, which suits stationary damage dealers like Odie.

Sylphira

Sylphira is an S-Level Celestial Rogue who builds beats over time and by interrupting or defeating enemies, eventually raising her ATK and Haste. Her Ultimate, Grand Finale, sends her into the densest enemy group and creates a domain that silences them while she stays unaffected. She is a strong PvP damage dealer, but she needs Supreme+ to be viable elsewhere.

Velara

Velara is an S-Level Wilder Support who places four dormant magic circles that heal allies and lower enemy Haste when awakened. Once all four are active, her Ultimate, Ruthless Rite, transfers enemy stats to your team, making her one of the strongest ATK buffers available. Her circles charge slowly, so she is too slow for PvP but valuable in AFK Stages and Dream Realm.

B Tier Heroes

These heroes still have clear uses, but each is limited to a narrower set of modes.

Galahad

Galahad is an S-Level Mauler Mage whose Ultimate, Temporal Field, damages all enemies and forms a magic circle that slows foes and lets a shadow of her repeat each skill. She is among the best damage dealers for Endless Dream Realm, but weak PvP results keep her in B Tier.

Phraesto

Phraesto was an S Tier pick in the previous version of this list and remains a capable stall tank. He summons an Illusion that inherits his stats and skills, and both gain damage reduction in the same row. He needs very heavy investment to function well, so newer tanks have overtaken him.

Alna

Alna is an S-Level Celestial Tank who reshaped the PvP meta. Her Ultimate, Winter Anthem, passively reduces the Haste and range of every other unit and actively strips enemy Haste buffs. Bosses ignore most of her effects, which makes her nearly useless in Dream Realm.

Faramor

Faramor is an A-Level Wilder Rogue who deals heavy true damage and blocks enemy healing. His Ultimate, Sanctified Circle, creates a circle that deals true damage scaling with lost HP and prevents healing inside it, and he raises an adjacent ally’s ATK. He is strong in AFK Stages and against some Dream Realm bosses but struggles against burst damage in PvP.

The AFK Journey meta in Season 8 is led by Rolan, Contess, Senea, Gunnar, and Frieren, with Aster and the other S Tier heroes close behind.
