Alien: Isolation – Introduction to All the Characters

Alien: Isolation is a survival horror masterpiece that excels in atmosphere, tension, and storytelling. Set 15 years after the events of Ridley Scott’s 1979 Alien, it places players in the role of Amanda Ripley, daughter of Ellen Ripley. The game blends stealth, survival mechanics, and character-driven narrative with impressive fidelity to the source material. In this guide, we’ll explore all the major characters of Alien: Isolation, their motivations, and how they shape Amanda’s harrowing journey aboard the Sevastopol Station.
Amanda Ripley
Amanda Ripley is the central character of Alien: Isolation. The daughter of Ellen Ripley, Amanda embarks on a mission to discover her mother’s fate after she disappeared following the Nostromo incident. Now a Weyland-Yutani engineer, Amanda joins the crew of the Torrens to recover the Nostromo’s flight recorder from Sevastopol Station. Amanda is resourceful, brave, and emotionally grounded.
Unlike her mother, who was a Warrant Officer, Amanda is an engineer, giving her a practical mindset and strong technical knowledge, which serves her well in crafting gadgets, restoring power, and navigating the station’s derelict systems.
Christopher Samuels
Christopher Samuels is one of the three Torrens crew members. A humanoid synthetic assigned to assist Amanda and her team, Samuels is polite, logical, and soft-spoken—distinctly different from Seegson’s menacing Working Joes. His mannerisms reflect the more human-like androids of Alien and Aliens. Samuels’ loyalty to Amanda is unwavering. Despite being a synthetic, he shows a strong degree of empathy and even sacrifices himself to help her later in the story, showcasing that not all synthetics are threats.
Nina Taylor
Nina Taylor is a Weyland-Yutani employee who joins Amanda and Samuels aboard the Torrens. Initially presented as an ally, Taylor’s true allegiance to the corporation becomes apparent when she attempts to recover the Xenomorph specimen for profit—echoing the company’s sinister motives in the Alien franchise.
Taylor’s arc explores the recurring theme of corporate greed, particularly Weyland-Yutani’s relentless pursuit of bioweapons research at the cost of human lives. Despite her betrayal, she isn’t painted as purely evil as her fear and eventual remorse add nuance to her character.
Ricardo
Ricardo serves as a supporting character who aids Amanda through radio transmissions and guidance from the Marshal Bureau’s command post. He’s not a combatant, but his technical know-how and clear communication help Amanda navigate critical parts of the station. Ricardo represents the average person trying to survive in a collapsing society. His desperation, fear, and later his tragic fate (dependent on player progression) drives home the emotional weight of Sevastopol’s downfall.
Marshal Waits
Marshal Waits is the gruff, no-nonsense head of security on Sevastopol Station. Initially antagonistic toward Amanda, Waits prioritizes station control over individual lives. His morally gray tactics, such as using Amanda as bait to lure the Xenomorph, reveal his desperation to do anything to achieve his goals. Despite his questionable ethics, Waits genuinely believes his actions are for the greater good. His eventual death marks a turning point in the game, as Amanda is forced to operate entirely alone.
The Alien – Xenomorph
The true terror of the game, the Xenomorph, is an almost unstoppable force. Unlike other enemies, it cannot be killed, only evaded or deterred. Its AI is dynamic, making every encounter unpredictable. The Alien doesn’t just represent physical danger, but it is a manifestation of fear, suspense, and isolation. It learns, adapts, and stalks Amanda relentlessly, turning even the quietest moment into a potential death trap. Its design, behavior, and sound cues are faithful to H.R. Giger’s vision and elevate the atmosphere to nerve-wracking heights.
