A Beginner's Guide to CookieRun: OvenBreak

CookieRun: OvenBreak is an endless runner from Devsisters in which you help GingerBrave and a cast of collectible Cookie characters break free from a Witch’s oven. The game features over 200 Cookies and Pets to collect, multiple competitive modes including Trophy Race and Cookie Trials, and an RPG-style upgrade system that keeps runs improving over time. This guide walks new players through the key systems so you can start building your collection and climbing the ranks from your very first session.
The Story and How Runs Begin
CookieRun: OvenBreak opens with a short animated sequence that establishes the core premise. GingerBrave finds himself inside a burning oven surrounded by defeated Cookies and refuses to accept the same fate. He breaks out and the run begins. As you progress through Cookie Trials, additional story moments are woven into runs through in-game dialogue. In one early sequence, GingerBrave encounters a special Bear Jelly named Nibbles, who has been captured and caged by the Witch. These story beats add personality to each Cookie’s journey and give players reasons to return beyond chasing high scores.

Core Controls: Jump and Slide
CookieRun: OvenBreak uses just two controls: Jump on the left and Slide on the right. Tapping Jump makes your Cookie leap over ground-level obstacles such as spike traps and sword hazards, and tapping it a second time in the air performs a double jump to reach higher Jellies or clear taller barriers. Holding the Slide button keeps your Cookie crouched along the ground to pass under low obstacles. The game introduces both controls through an in-run tutorial during your first session, walking you through each action as hazards appear on screen. Mastering the timing of when to jump and when to slide is the most fundamental skill in the game, and both mechanics are simple enough to pick up within the first few runs.

Jellies, Power-Ups, and Energy
Jellies are the primary collectible in every run and form the basis of your score. Standard blue Jellies are scattered throughout each stage in lines and clusters, while Bear Jellies appear in larger grouped formations and are worth significantly more points when collected in full. The game also features special power-up Jellies that trigger temporary effects: Giant Jellies cause your Cookie to grow large and smash through otherwise lethal obstacles, while Blast Jellies launch your Cookie into a high-speed dash that sweeps up large numbers of Jellies in a short window. Your Energy bar, visible at the top of the screen, drains continuously as you run and determines the length of each attempt. Activating power-ups that let you collect more Jellies in a shorter time is key to building a strong score before your Energy runs out.

Cookie Trials: The Main Progression Mode
Cookie Trials is the primary mode for new players and the best way to build resources early in the game. Each trial assigns you a specific Cookie and challenges you to reach a target score in order to advance through a rank ladder beginning at Bronze and moving up through Silver, Gold, and beyond. Your rank progress is displayed in real time on the right side of the screen during runs, so you always know how close you are to the next milestone. Achieving higher ranks rewards Rank Stars, Crystals, and upgrade materials. The mode also generates its own set of missions that reward Gold Tickets upon completion, making Cookie Trials the most reliable source of resources for new players. Completing runs consistently across multiple Cookies accelerates your overall account progression.

Leveling Up Your Cookie and Pet
Every Cookie and Pet can be upgraded using pieces collected primarily from Gold Chests. For Cookies, leveling up increases their maximum Energy and enhances their active skill, both of which directly improve run performance. GingerBrave’s starting skill grows stronger with each level, and the game allows you to level up multiple tiers at once using the MAX button if you have enough pieces available. Pets run alongside your Cookie during every run and provide passive bonuses. Choco Drop, the starter Pet paired with GingerBrave, generates its own Jellies at regular intervals and adds bonus points for each one collected. When you have enough pieces to upgrade, an Upgrade Available prompt appears on the Cookie or Pet Details screen, and tapping the Level Up button spends the required Coins to confirm. Focus early upgrades on whichever Cookie and Pet you use most in Cookie Trials.

Missions, Gold Tickets, and Gold Chests
The Rewards screen is where you collect the resources earned from each session. The Missions tab tracks a variety of ongoing objectives including running once, logging in daily, destroying obstacles during runs, and completing Cookie Trials. Each completed mission rewards Gold Tickets, and accumulating ten Gold Tickets allows you to open one Gold Chest. Gold Chests reliably contain Crystals, Coins, Cookie pieces, Pet pieces, and Cookie Potions. Completing all available missions every session is the single most effective habit for new players, as it keeps upgrade materials flowing without requiring you to spend premium currency. The Gold Chest event counter also tracks cumulative openings and contributes to additional event-based rewards over time.

The Gacha: Unlocking New Cookies and Pets
Once you have accumulated Crystals, the Cookie and Pet tab in the Gacha is where new characters become available. Cookies are categorised by rarity, with Common at the base level and Epic and Legendary representing rarer and more powerful options. Each featured Cookie is paired with a matching Pet, and banner purchases or rewards typically grant both together. Epic Cookies such as Hero Cookie come with unique skill sets and in-game story presence, while their paired Pets contribute additional scoring bonuses that complement the Cookie’s playstyle. Saving Crystals for featured Epic or Legendary banners rather than spending them on lower rarity bundles is generally the stronger long-term approach, as higher rarity Cookies offer meaningfully different mechanics that open up new scoring strategies.

CookieRun: OvenBreak rewards players who understand its systems and build consistent daily habits around missions, upgrades, and runs. By focusing on Cookie Trials, leveling your Cookie and Pet steadily, and claiming Gold Chests regularly, you will establish a strong foundation from which to explore higher ranks and unlock the wider roster of Cookies and Pets the game offers.
