Identity V Character Guide - List of All Survivors and Hunters

Identity V is a high stakes game of supernatural survival where mystery meets strategy. In this gothic horror setting, you step into a dark manor to participate in matches where one powerful Hunter pursues four resourceful Survivors. The core objective is simple yet intense: Survivors must decode five cipher machines to unlock the exit gates, while the Hunter aims to eliminate at least three of them. Every match is a unique puzzle that requires a deep understanding of the diverse cast of characters available. And, that’s where our Identity V character guide will help you out!
How to Unlock Characters in Identity V?
Building your collection of characters is one of the most rewarding parts of the game. When you first start your journey, the game is generous enough to give you a basic team to learn the ropes. For survivors, you will immediately have access to the Doctor, Lawyer, Thief, Gardener, and the versatile Lucky Guy. On the hunter side, you begin with the vengeful Leo Beck, known as Hell Ember. Beyond these starters, you have several ways to expand your horizons.

- Clues and the Logic Path: As you play matches and complete daily tasks, you earn clues. These are the primary free currency in the game. You can spend clues in the Illusion Hall to buy almost any character you desire. The Logic Path is another great source for clues as you roll dice to move across the board.
- Echoes: If you want to skip the grind, you can use echoes, which is the premium currency. This allows you to instantly unlock the newest meta characters as soon as they hit the shop.
- Seasonal Essences: Every season, the developers introduce two or three brand new characters. You can often unlock these early by being lucky enough to pull their Limited S-Tier Costume from a seasonal essence. Once you get that special outfit, the character is yours to keep even before they officially go on sale for clues.
- Character Trials: Keep an eye out for events that give you trial cards. These allow you to test a character for a few days so you can see if their playstyle fits your hands before you commit your hard earned currency.
Who are Survivors in Identity V?
With 49 playable survivors, there is a role for every type of player. Survivors win by decoding five ciphers and opening the exit gates. To do this efficiently, the team usually balances four distinct archetypes: Decoders, Kiters, Rescuers, and Assist characters.

Decoders: These characters are the heart of the team’s progress. Tracy the Mechanic is a top tier choice because she can control a robot to decode even while she is incapacitated or being chased. Luca the Prisoner can link two cipher machines together, allowing progress to transfer between them and preventing the Hunter from guarding them easily.
Kiters: The goal of a kiter is to grab the attention of the Hunter and waste their time. Vera the Perfumer uses her Euphoria spray to record her current health state, allowing her to teleport back and heal instantly after taking a hit. Characters like Mike the Acrobat use explosive balls to vault over obstacles or slow the Hunter down, making them incredibly difficult to catch in tight areas.
Rescuers: These are the brave souls who save teammates from rocket chairs. Naib the Mercenary is the gold standard for this role because his delayed damage mechanic allows him to take a hit and still complete a rescue safely. Martha the Coordinator carries a flare gun that can stun a Hunter, providing a crucial window for an escape.
Assistants: Support characters like Eli the Seer use an owl to provide shields for teammates. Fiona the Priestess creates portals that allow the team to teleport through walls, which can completely reset a chase if used correctly.

Who are Hunters in Identity V?
There are currently 32 hunters available to haunt the manor, and each one plays like a boss fight. As a hunter, your power grows through the Presence system. By attacking survivors, you unlock new levels of your abilities, becoming more dangerous as the match reaches its climax.

Some hunters focus on map control, like Burke the Mad Eyes, who can raise walls from a distance to block exits. Others prefer a more direct approach, like Jack the Ripper, who uses foggy blades to strike from invisibility. The complexity varies from the simple rocket dash of Smiley Face to the intricate multi-follower management of the Dream Witch.
