Melon Sandbox – Introduction to All Livings

Livings are humanoid, ragdoll-style characters with advanced behaviors in Melon Sandbox. They bleed, dismember, burn, drown, and can be healed or altered. They blend physics-based interactions with biological reactions, making them perfect for dramatic simulations and fun experiments. Essentially, these are characters that players can deploy in their simulations to enhance the value of the experiment. This guide will throw light on all the different livings available to be deployed.

Melon
The Melon is the first addition to the Living. It has been around since Human Playground, the alpha version of Melon Sandbox. The Melon, like all living things, can be dismembered, bleed, die, and deteriorate after death. It also changes height with each spawn, burns and cremates, drowns and changes appearance when swimming too rapidly, and gains positive or negative effects based on the Syringe it is injected with.
Pumpkin
Pumpkin lives at Melon Playground. It is the game’s second added Living, following the Melon. The Pumpkin, like all living things, can be dismembered, bleed, die, and rot after death. It also changes height with each spawn, burns and cremates, drowns and changes appearance when swimming too rapidly, and gains positive or negative effects based on the Syringe it is injected with.
Corn
Corn is a “Living” entity in Melon Playground, introduced on December 30, 2021 with version 5.1. It’s the third Living added, following Melon and Pumpkin. Like other Livings, Corn can bleed, be dismembered, die, and decay. It spawns in varying heights, reacts to modifications (e.g., injections via syringe), can drown, and can be burned. When set on fire, Corn tarnishes and produces popcorn kernels across its body—mirroring the effect seen with Misc Corn.
Apple
Apple is the fourth “Living” entity added to Melon Playground (after Melon, Pumpkin, Corn), introduced in the 8.1 update. Like other Livings, Apple can be dismembered, bleed (producing yellow “apple juice”), die, decay, and vary in height upon spawning. When burned, it suffocates and eventually reveals its skeleton. The Apple features a breakable leaf on its head, and has blinking animation with dark red eyelids.
Robot
Introduced in the 15.1.100 update on June 12, 2023, Robot is the 5th “Living” added to Melon Playground. Unlike previous livings (fruit/vegetable-based), Robot is the first non-organic character—not a fruit or vegetable. Resembles a mechanical skeletal figure with a prominent skull-like forehead. Features an orange visor (eyes) and a straight-line mouth. Blood appears black—likely oil or fuel. Robots are immune to most non-explosive weapons, fire, and electric damage. Their limbs can still be torn off but they cannot be pulverized.
Cactus
The Cactus is a Living entity in Melon Playground, introduced in version 19.0 on October 23, 2023, making it the 6th Living added. It features light‑green blood and a tall, slender appearance topped with thorns and petals. Functionally, Cactus behaves like other livings: it bleeds, can be dismembered, burned and cremated, drown, decay, and shows random height variation upon spawning.
Tomato
Debuted in version 21.0 on February 15, 2024, following Cactus as the 7th “Living” to join the game and introduced through community votes those starting in update 18.0.9. The head is a glass jar containing four floating tomatoes. If the jar is damaged—by collision, heat, or explosions—it shatters, scattering tomatoes and instantly killing the Tomato. Head restoration is only possible with a Regrowth Syringe. Shares standard living behaviors: height variation at spawn, bleeding, dismemberment, burning, drowning, decaying, and extracts distinct responses to syringe injections.
