Gakuran is a Roblox school-life fighting game set in 2007 Japan, and your fighting style decides how every PvP fight plays out. Styles are random rolls sorted into rarity groups, each with its own passive perks, and the roster has grown quickly through 2026. This tier list ranks the established styles, then explains how to reroll for the style you want.

How This Gakuran Tier List Works

The rankings below focus on PvP strength. Recent community tier lists agree on the top tier, and the rest has been adjusted for later patches, especially Update v9.00, which cut M1 speed for Karate by 8%, Muay Thai and Kure by 6%, and Hakari by 3%. Styles that are too new to rank fairly are covered in a separate section.

Rarity only controls how often a style appears when you roll, and several common styles outperform much rarer ones in real fights.

B Karate, Slugger, Basic
C Wing Chun

S Tier Fighting Styles

Ali

Ali is one of Gakuran’s secret (???) styles, the rarest roll group in the game, and it plays like footwork-focused boxing. Float Like a Butterfly grants iFrames so you can move in and land your critical, while Sting Like a Bee rewards dodging an attack with your evasive by opening a counter. Counterstrike and Guard Pierce III round out the kit. Its very fast punches suit short characters best, although the developers have already trimmed it once by stopping it from hitting ragdolled players on the ground.

Boxing

Boxing is the most practical S-tier target because it sits in the Epic group, which takes 10% of all rolls. Untouchable gives its M2 heavy attacks iFrames, so opponents cannot interrupt them and must parry or dodge instead. Perfect Reflex cuts the M2 cooldown by one second after every perfect block, and Guard Pierce III adds 20% block chip damage. The Club Akuma update also added a Switch Stance perk. Boxing performs best on short characters, whose faster attacks keep its pressure constant.

Wrestling

Wrestling is a Legendary grappler built around Takedown, an M2 that grabs and slams opponents for 1.5 times damage with hyperarmor, although a parry or dodge still stops it. Heavy Hitter III adds 15% guardbreak damage, and Resilience V gives a 55% chance to turn a clash into a grapple, which ties Muay Thai for the highest clash chance listed. Wrestling was reworked in the Club Akuma update and favors tall characters, whose extra reach and health make its grab game harder to escape.

Kure

Kure is a Legendary style built for long, aggressive duels. Its Takedown M2 is a headbutt grab for 1.5 times damage, and Concussive removes the victim’s ability to parry for two seconds after the slam lands. Last Stand raises your damage by 15% when your health drops to 25% or lower, giving it a genuine comeback tool. Kure’s M1 speed was reduced by 6% in Update v9.00, but its anti-parry pressure still sets it apart. It suits medium to tall builds.

A Tier Fighting Styles

Muay Thai

Muay Thai is the best value pick in the Uncommon group, which takes 30% of rolls, so it is far easier to land than any S-tier style. Powerful makes its M2 ragdoll opponents, Crushing Force II adds 15% posture damage, Guard Pierce V deals 30% block chip damage, and Resilience V gives a 55% grapple clash chance. The 6% M1 speed reduction in Update v9.00 keeps it just below the top tier. It works best on short to medium characters.

Capoeira

Capoeira is a Legendary mobility style. Its Ginga perk makes dash cooldown 25% shorter, letting you reposition, bait swings, and re-engage faster than other styles. Powerful makes its M2 ragdoll on hit, Heavy Hitter I and Guard Pierce II add modest guard pressure, and the Club Akuma update added Crushing Force I for 10% more posture damage. Capoeira rewards spacing and hit-and-run play more than direct trades, and it suits tall characters.

Hakari

Hakari was reworked and moved into the Legendary group in early August, so older guides that list it as Epic are out of date. Its Momentum Rush perk opens a seven-second window after a full M1 string lands without you being stunned, and during that window your M2 deals three times damage. That burst is enormous, but a parry or interruption mid-string removes it, which is why its rankings vary. It took a small 3% M1 speed reduction in Update v9.00 and favors tall builds.

Striker

Striker is an Epic style added in Update v8.009 in mid-August. Its signature perk, Broken Rhythm, makes each hit in the M1 chain wind up faster than the one before it, so the combo never lands on a steady beat and is harder to read and parry. Its heavy attack can also punish opponents who have already lost posture. Striker rewards players who vary their timing, and it fits short to medium characters.

B Tier Fighting Styles

Karate

Karate is an Uncommon parry-focused style. Steady Nerves raises posture regeneration by 15% for three seconds after a perfect block, and Balanced Strike refunds 25% of your posture when an M2 lands, which gives it strong staying power in drawn-out fights. Its M2 also ragdolls on hit. However, Karate took the largest nerf among established styles in Update v9.00, an 8% M1 speed reduction, and that drops it to B tier. Medium height suits it best.

Slugger

Slugger is an all-in Uncommon style. Its Unstable perk now lets you deal 30% more damage while taking 10% more, after earlier patches shifted both numbers in its favor. Guard Pierce V adds 30% block chip damage and Resilience III gives a 45% grapple clash chance. The catch is its slow attacks, which give attentive opponents time to parry or dodge, so every missed swing is punished hard. It fits medium to tall characters.

Basic

Basic is the only Common style, and its 59% roll rate means most players start with it. Counterstrike adds 5% damage to your next attack after a perfect block, Swift Recovery boosts posture regeneration by 15%, and Guard Pierce II and Resilience II give it moderate chip damage and grapple chances. It has no burst tools or special mechanics, but its fundamentals-based kit is a sensible way to learn parrying and spacing before you spend rerolls. Any height works with it.

C Tier Fighting Styles

Wing Chun

Wing Chun is a secret (???) style added in Update v7.856, and it shows that rarity does not guarantee power. Swift Hands speeds up its M1s at the cost of damage, Fortified improves posture resistance, and its critical is a precise counter. The developers have nerfed it several times since launch, lowering critical damage by 20%, raising the critical cooldown from 7.5 to 9 seconds, doubling the punish window after a missed counter, and preventing M2 use while being comboed. It now demands very exact timing and suits short characters.

Newer Styles Not Yet Ranked

Twelve styles have joined Gakuran since mid-August, five of them in the October 3 Holy Grail Update, and none has settled enough for a reliable placement. Mishima is a special case, since Update v9.00 cut its M1 speed by 16% and removed its Unbothered perk shortly after release, so early praise for it is outdated.

How to Get Fighting Styles in Gakuran

Every fighting style in Gakuran is obtained through a random roll, and the result is weighted by rarity group. Common takes 59% of rolls, Uncommon 30%, Epic 10%, and Legendary 1%, while the secret (???) group sits at a tiny fraction of a percent. Each percentage is shared by every style in that group, and you can check current rates by hovering over the reroll infographic. To reroll your style, follow these steps.

  • Open the menu from the left side of the screen, go to Stats, and find the Fight Style section.
  • Press Show Perks to read your current style’s passives before you spend anything.
  • Press the reroll button next to Fight Style and confirm, using a free reroll or Robux at 5 Robux per roll.
  • Check the new style’s perks, and note that rolling is disabled while you are in combat.

Bulk Rerolls let you roll many times at once, Auto Rolling keeps rolling until you hit a chosen rarity, and an undo option reverses an unwanted roll. You also have two fighting-style slots, so one strong style does not have to be your only one. The Holy Grail Update added a pity system for ??? styles, where you pick the style you are chasing, a pity hit gives a 50/50 chance at it, and losing that 50/50 guarantees your next pity.

Ways to Earn Free Rerolls

Free rerolls come from several sources.

  • Redeem codes from the Codes menu, which unlocks after one hour of playtime.
  • Claim the daily rewards calendar, which gives rerolls and yen plus lucky bag spins on days 7, 14, and 21.
  • Finish in the weekly top three of a club leaderboard, which pays rerolls and yen.
  • Accept rerolls gifted by other players through the Stats menu.

Style Awakening and Character Height

The Holy Grail Update introduced Style Awakening for eight styles: Boxing, Karate, Lethwei, Taijutsu, Jin, Hakari, Wrestling, and Muay Thai. Each style has three awakening stages, but only the first is revealed, and you track your progress through the Mastery Stage entry in Stats and the Awakening page. The developers have said more styles will receive awakenings soon.

Height matters as much as the style itself. Taller characters gain damage, health, and reach but have larger hitboxes and slower attacks, while shorter characters trade some damage and health for faster attacks and a smaller target. This is why short builds suit Boxing, Ali, and Striker, while tall builds get more out of Wrestling, Capoeira, and Hakari.

The current Gakuran meta is led by Ali, Boxing, Wrestling, and Kure, with Muay Thai, Capoeira, Hakari, and Striker close behind. Boxing and Muay Thai offer the best balance of strength and roll odds, while recent nerfs have pulled Karate and Wing Chun down the list. Match your style to your character’s height, test new rolls before discarding them, and use free rerolls from codes and daily rewards before spending Robux.
