The Frontiers of Knowledge update for Rise of Kingdoms is rolling out on May 13, bringing a fresh wave of improvements and content to keep players engaged in the strategy game. From themed events tied to Museum Day to important changes in the Lost Kingdom system, there’s plenty here for both casual and competitive players to explore.

This version also delivers significant tweaks to commander skills, better matchmaking in various game modes, and new quality-of-life features to smooth out your daily gameplay. Whether you’re a long-time governor or just settling into your city, this update offers a bit of everything.

New Museum Day Events

  • New themed events like Trail of the Ancients and Mesozoic Mysteries
  • Puzzle, delivery, and recharge events return with updated rewards
  • Limited availability based on kingdom age

The update introduces the Museum Day event series, celebrating exploration and ancient history with a variety of mini-events. You’ll complete quests over seven days in Trail of the Ancients, uncover dinosaur fossils in Mesozoic Mysteries, and exchange rare items in Jurassic Jewels. Each event is built around a different kind of activity, from strategic delivery runs in Protect The Supplies to competitive jigsaw puzzle solving in Sharp Eyes & Quick Hands.

Some events will only unlock in regions where all kingdoms are at least 21 days old, so be sure to check your Event Calendar for what’s available. It’s a nice mix of casual content with high-value rewards, especially for daily players.

Lost Kingdom Overhaul

  • Storyline reworks for Keener Blades and added Level 11 Passes
  • Lost Kingdom tier system with unlockable rewards
  • Pioneer testing for new crystal tech and Past Glory balance

The Lost Kingdom is getting a major update in this patch, starting with a refined version of the Keener Blades storyline. Chapter durations and objectives have been adjusted to improve pacing, and the layout now includes more Bastions and a new set of Level 11 Passes. These open toward the end of the season, letting every governor eventually access Arena areas.

A new tier system adds structure to your kingdom’s progress—every unit you lose in battle now contributes to overall tier points. As your kingdom levels up, you’ll unlock new Crusader Achievements and improved troop return rates in the Hall of Heroes. On top of that, Pioneer testing for crystal technology begins soon. The goal is to let players specialize in unit types more easily and unlock key upgrades earlier. It’s a promising shift that gives more control to individual playstyles.

Commander Balance Changes

  • Cheok Jun-gyeong and Bertrand du Guesclin get full reworks
  • New skill effects, talents, and conditions focused on the field
  • Four commanders added to Season 2 Wheel and shops

Two major commanders—Cheok Jun-gyeong and Bertrand du Guesclin—have been reworked to better fit the Season 2 environment. Cheok now uses a Smite-focused talent tree with abilities that silence low-health enemies and cleanse debuffs mid-battle. Bertrand, on the other hand, shifts into a combo damage role with rage-draining effects and bonuses outside alliance territory.

These updates make both commanders more relevant in the current meta and add deeper decision-making during battles. You’ll also now find them, along with Takeda Shingen and Cyrus the Great, in the Wheel of Fortune, Legendary Tavern, Daily Offers, and several returnee events. They’ve been removed from the swap system but are now usable in game modes like Ark of Osiris during Season 2.

Event and System Enhancements

  • Alliance leaders can batch refresh quests and auto-submit completed ones
  • New chieftains and easier stages in Realm of Mystique
  • Improved Canyon Clash matchmaking and enemy balancing

This patch also brings a few helpful upgrades to ongoing events. In Alliance Mobilization, officers can now batch-select quests to refresh, and completed ones auto-submit after 24 hours—no more micromanaging. Realm of Mystique has seen new chieftains added and several stages removed, making it more accessible for players at all power levels.

Rise of Kingdoms ‘Frontiers of Knowledge’ Update Introduces New Events and Lost Kingdom Revamps

Matchmaking for Canyon Clash has also been adjusted to ensure more even pairings, which should reduce those frustrating mismatches. These tweaks focus on keeping events fun without overloading players with repetitive or time-consuming tasks.

New Gear and Combat Features

  • Two new legendary accessories added to blacksmith and combat shops
  • Crusader Flags can now be pre-planned by alliance Counselors
  • Armament transmutation guarantee system reduces randomness

If you’re into forging or combat prep, this update has a few things for you. Two new legendary accessories—Saddle of a Thousand Blessings and Hero’s Hilt—are now available through the Blacksmith and Season of Conquest shops. They’ll also be added to core loot in the Holy Knight’s Treasure.

In alliance battles, Counselors can now pre-plan Crusader Flag placement. Once all conditions are met, the flag builds automatically, taking some of the hassle out of territory expansion. Meanwhile, the new transmutation guarantee system helps reduce RNG frustration when you’re trying to roll combat stats. Every 10 or 30 transmutations guarantees a match with your locked attributes.

Smaller Quality-of-Life Touches

  • March path lines on the map are thinner and less distracting
  • New troop control settings for easier battlefield targeting
  • Title system lets players relinquish roles or set requirements
  • Spin Tickets added for Wheel of Fortune pulls in Season 2
  • Option to block players by name or ID, and minor UI tweaks

A handful of visual and control updates round out the patch. Map path lines are now less intrusive, and a new setting swaps the “Search” button for a quick return-to-city option when selecting troops. Battle targeting has been improved, even if Quick Command is off, and you’ll now have more ways to customize how your army behaves during fights.

The title management system has also been refined. You can now give up titles, set City Hall requirements, and better manage reservations. Spin Tickets are a new addition to Season 2’s Wheel of Fortune and can be earned through bundles or purchased with Gems. And if someone’s bothering you in chat, you can block them directly using their name or ID.

The Frontiers of Knowledge update brings in a solid mix of new content, rebalanced systems, and quality-of-life updates across Rise of Kingdoms. Whether you’re joining the Museum Day events, climbing Lost Kingdom tiers, or experimenting with updated commanders, there’s plenty to look forward to in this patch.
