The Chimera is the toughest Clan Boss in the game, and it punishes teams that show up unprepared. This RAID: Shadow Legends Chimera guide breaks down all four forms, the mechanics behind each one, how Trials work, and how to build a team that survives long enough to actually deal damage.

What Is the Chimera Clan Boss?

The Chimera is a Clan Boss fight that only Clan members can access, and it unlocks once you hit Level 33. You will find it on the Clan Bosses Map after selecting the Clan Bosses game mode.

Like Demon Lord and Hydra, this fight is about survival rather than a straight race to kill. You bring 5 Champions into a battle that lasts exactly 65 turns, and your goal is to stay alive as long as possible while pushing out as much damage as you can. Every Clan member fights alone, but all damage is pooled together to wear down the boss. If you’re also working through the other Clan Bosses, check out this Clan Boss Progression Guide covering the full climb from Easy to Ultra-Nightmare.

The Chimera is also the only source of the Mythical champion Embrys the Anomaly, and it is one of the main ways to farm Relic materials like Starstone, Basalt, Gemstones, and Ocular Masses.

The Four Chimera Forms and Rotation

The Chimera cycles through four forms during a battle: Ultimate, Ram, Lion, and Viper. It switches forms every 5 turns, always starting in Ultimate Form and returning to Ultimate between each animal form.

The full pattern runs Ultimate, Ram, Ultimate, Lion, Ultimate, Viper, Ultimate, and this whole sequence repeats twice across the fight. Over a single battle you will face the Ram, Lion, and Viper twice each, and the Ultimate Form seven times.

Knowing this rotation matters because each form demands something different from your team. You can plan which Champions and which buffs need to be active during specific windows instead of reacting on the fly.

Chimera Clan Boss Ram Form

The Ram locks a Duel effect onto one of your Champions at the start of its turn, and it always picks the Champion with the lowest Critical Damage on your team. Once the Duel is active, the Ram deals 50% more damage to that target, and every other Champion on your team deals 50% less damage to the Chimera until the Duel ends.

blog-image-RAIDShadowLegends_Guide_ChimeraClanBossGuide_EN04

The Duel effect cannot be resisted, blocked, removed, or stolen, and it takes priority over Taunt, Veil, and Perfect Veil buffs. Your only way out is to deplete the Duel bar, which is worth 0.5% of the Chimera’s maximum HP. The Duel also ends if either the Chimera or the dueled Champion dies.

The Ram has the highest Accuracy of all four forms, so your dueled Champion needs high Resistance to avoid getting stripped. A useful trick here is to make sure your highest Resistance Champion also has the lowest Critical Damage, since that combination pulls the Duel onto the Champion best equipped to survive it. Every successful buff strip increases the Ram’s damage against that target, so preventing strips is a priority.

Chimera Clan Boss Lion Form

When the Chimera shifts into Lion Form, it places Hunter’s Gaze on the Champion with the highest Defense at the start of its turn. This debuff cannot be resisted or blocked.

Hunter’s Gaze turns off almost every defensive tool in the game. Damage to the marked Champion cannot be decreased, blocked, redirected, or transferred, and it ignores Unkillable, Block Damage, Increase DEF, Strengthen, Ally Protection, Veil, Perfect Veil, and Shield buffs. Evasion still works, but if a hit lands, it lands at full force.

Because layered protection stops working here, raw survivability matters far more. Build your likely Hunter’s Gaze target with high HP so they can absorb the initial hit. Counterattack paired with Life Drinker helps them recover immediately after taking damage, the Golden Elixir relic provides emergency healing when HP drops below half, and a Continuous Heal buff adds steady sustain on their turn. Having a dedicated healer ready to stabilize them is also worth planning for.

One useful detail is that the Lion takes 5 times more damage from Reflect Damage buffs, Pain Link debuffs, and passive Reflect Damage effects, which opens up a strong damage window if you build for it.

Chimera Clan Boss Viper Form

The Viper introduces Necrosis, a stacking effect that triggers whenever one of your Champions dies. Each death places a Necrosis stack on every surviving Champion, and each stack deals damage equal to 5% of that Champion’s maximum HP at the start of their turn. Three stacks means 15% of max HP draining away every turn, which snowballs fast once your team starts falling apart.

blog-image-RAIDShadowLegends_Guide_ChimeraClanBossGuide_EN06

Necrosis cannot be resisted or blocked. Reviving a fallen ally removes one stack per Champion revived, and applying a Stone Skin buff temporarily clears Necrosis, though the stacks return once the buff expires if dead allies remain.

The Viper also punishes revives directly. Revived Champions come back with 25% less HP and 25% less Turn Meter, and the Viper can outright deny one revival attempt on a cooldown. Keeping your team alive in the first place is far more reliable than trying to recover after losses.

Chimera Clan Boss Ultimate Form (Toughest Part)

The Ultimate Form has no Trials attached to it, but it gets progressively more dangerous as you complete Trials during the battle. Its Savage Evolution passive grants bonus effects and stat boosts for every 3 Trials you finish.

blog-image-RAIDShadowLegends_Guide_ChimeraClanBossGuide_EN07

Here is how that scaling works:

Trials Completed Bonus Gained
1 to 3 Ignores Unkillable buffs, ATK +5%
4 to 6 Ignores Block Damage buffs, C. DMG +5%
7 to 9 Ignores 25% DEF, C. RATE +5%
10 to 12 Ignores damage reduction except buffs and debuffs, ATK +10%
13 to 15 Ignores Ally Protection buffs, C. DMG +10%
16 to 18 Ignores 50% DEF, C. RATE +10%
19 to 21 Ignores Strengthen buffs, ATK +15%
22 to 24 Ignores Shield buffs, C. DMG +15%
25 to 27 Ignores 100% DEF, C. RATE +15%

The Ultimate Form also has a passive that reduces incoming damage by 10% for each Champion without buffs, stacking up to 50%, and it takes 50% less damage from Champions under Provoke. Keeping buffs active on your team is therefore both a survival tool and a damage tool.

How Chimera Trials Work in RAID: Shadow Legends?

Each battle gives you the chance to complete in-battle Trials for extra rewards. Trials are unique to each form and come in three difficulty levels: Easy, Normal, and Hard. Every form has 3 Trials at each difficulty, which adds up to 9 per form and 27 in total across the Ram, Lion, and Viper.

Higher difficulty Trials only unlock once you have cleared the previous level, and you can complete all 27 in a single battle if your team is built for it. Trial rewards are handed out immediately after the battle rather than waiting for the weekly reset, but you must spend a Chimera Key to claim them. Using Free Regroup cancels your Trial rewards along with your score.

Trial rewards change every week, but the Trials themselves stay the same, so once you learn them you can build around them permanently.

Most Trials revolve around a small set of repeated requirements, which makes team building much easier once you spot the pattern:

  • Landing specific debuffs on the Chimera such as Decrease DEF, Weaken, Decrease SPD, Decrease RES, Leech, HP Burn, Poison, and Block Active Skills.
  • Keeping specific buffs active on your team including Increase ACC, Increase DEF, Increase ATK, Increase SPD, Increase RES, Block Debuffs, Perfect Veil, and Shield.
  • Blocking or absorbing damage through Shield, Block Damage, Unkillable, Stone Skin, or Intercept buffs.
  • Damaging the boss through counterattacks, Ally Attacks, Reflect Damage buffs, or Pain Link debuffs.
  • Surviving cleanly, such as keeping all Champions alive for 3 Chimera turns, or successfully reviving allies.

Building the Best Chimera Boss Team in RAID: Shadow Legends

There is no single team that works for everyone, since the Chimera rotates affinities monthly and your roster limits your options. That said, a strong Chimera team almost always covers the same core roles:

  • You need heavy debuff coverage, since a large share of Trials require specific debuffs on the boss and your damage scales with how many debuffs you can keep applied. Decrease DEF and Weaken are the two most valuable, with Decrease SPD, Decrease RES, and Leech close behind.
  • You also need reliable buff uptime. Increase DEF, Increase ATK, Increase SPD, and Block Debuffs all show up repeatedly in Trial requirements, and keeping buffs on every Champion also reduces the Ultimate Form’s damage reduction passive.
  • Survivability tools matter more than raw damage to this boss. Shields, Block Damage, Unkillable, and strong healing keep your team alive through 65 turns, which is what actually determines your final damage number. A dedicated healer or a Champion with Continuous Heal is close to mandatory at higher difficulties.
  • Finally, consider bringing a Champion who can trigger Reflect Damage or Pain Link, since the Lion Form takes 5 times more damage from those effects and it also clears one of the Hard Lion Trials at the same time.
  • For affinity, check the current rotation before building. During each 28 day rotation the Ram, Lion, and Viper all share one affinity while the Ultimate Form uses a different one, so picking Champions that counter the dominant affinity gives you a real edge.

Accuracy and Resistance Requirements

Stat requirements scale sharply with difficulty, and bringing under-geared Champions is the most common reason teams fall apart early.

As a rule, your Champions need 25 more Accuracy than the Chimera’s Resistance to land debuffs reliably. To resist the Chimera’s debuffs, your Champions need 125 more Resistance than its Accuracy. There is always a built in 3% chance for a debuff to land or fail regardless of stats.

Here are the Resistance and Accuracy values you are working against on each difficulty, listed as Ultimate, Ram, Lion, and Viper:

Difficulty Resistance (U/R/L/V) Accuracy (U/R/L/V)
Easy 100 / 150 / 100 / 125 100 / 200 / 125 / 150
Normal 150 / 200 / 150 / 175 150 / 250 / 175 / 200
Hard 200 / 250 / 200 / 225 200 / 300 / 225 / 250
Brutal 250 / 300 / 250 / 275 250 / 350 / 275 / 300
Nightmare 350 / 400 / 350 / 375 350 / 450 / 375 / 400

Chimera Boss – Keys, Weekly Cycles, and Difficulties

The Chimera resets weekly between Thursday and Friday at 11:30 UTC, and the boss is unavailable during that window. After each reset you receive 2 Chimera Keys, and each battle costs 1 Key.

There are 6 difficulties: Easy, Normal, Hard, Brutal, Nightmare, and Ultra-Nightmare. Your Clan unlocks the next difficulty by fully depleting the Chimera’s HP on the current one, and once unlocked it stays unlocked permanently.

Rewards depend on how the week ends. If the Chimera survives, each contributing member gets one Chimera Chest based on their personal damage. If the Clan kills it, everyone who contributed gets two chests instead.

blog-image-RAIDShadowLegends_Guide_ChimeraClanBossGuide_EN09

A key tip here is the Free Regroup option. Pausing mid battle and selecting Free Regroup sends you back to team selection without spending a Key, letting you test different setups as much as you want. The trade off is that you lose your score and any Trial rewards from that attempt, so use it for experimenting and then commit properly with a Key.

Damage Milestones for Chimera Chests

Chest rewards are tied to damage thresholds, so it is worth fighting on a difficulty where you can actually reach a milestone. Falling short of the minimum means walking away with nothing.

Difficulty Lowest Milestone Highest Milestone
Easy 900K for Novice Chest Over 4.15M for Warrior Chest
Normal 2.1M for Adept Chest Over 9.75M for Knight Chest
Hard 4.4M for Warrior Chest Over 20.5M for Guardian Chest
Brutal 7.7M for Knight Chest Over 36M for Master Chest
Nightmare 18M for Knight Chest Over 84M for Grandmaster Chest
Ultra-Nightmare 24.1M for Guardian Chest Over 112.5M for Ultimate Chest

Chests contain Ocular Masses, Starstone, Clan Gold, Clan XP, Circular Gemstones, Basalt, and Champion Fragments, with higher tier chests holding more rewards and better rarities.

Tips to Beat Chimera Clan Boss Faster

  • Complete Trials as early as possible, since multipliers only apply to damage dealt afterward.
  • Use Free Regroup freely to test teams before committing a Key.
  • Match your Champion affinities to the current 28 day rotation.
  • Give your highest Resistance Champion the lowest Critical Damage so the Ram duels your sturdiest unit.
  • Build your highest Defense Champion with strong HP and healing, since they will always draw Hunter’s Gaze.
  • Keep buffs active on every Champion to reduce the Ultimate Form’s damage reduction passive.
  • Pick a difficulty you can actually clear a damage milestone on rather than chasing the hardest tier available.
