Star Sailors is one of the most remarkable games of 2026: it combines a fluid turn-based combat system with innovative group mechanics and offers a massive world to explore. Unlike classic JRPGs, the combat system is quite dynamic, and when choosing companions for your group, you need to pay attention to the roles they can take on. If you’re looking for a brand-new mobile RPG that offers less grind, more story, impressive graphics, and immersive gameplay, Star Sailors might be the game for you. Here, we’ll talk about what you need to know to get a quick start.

IMPORTANT The information in this guide is based on the beta version of the game and may differ in the final version. We will update this guide if there are any significant changes.

Who Are You and What Is Your Goal?

You are an adventurer chosen by Star Compass, and together with your companions, you will explore a vast world, challenge many different enemies, and complete dozens of different quests. Your character is the first and permanent member of your group. You can take on different roles such as Supporter, Debuffer, Attacker, or Defender. Additionally, your adventurer can belong to one of the following elements: earth, wind, water, fire, light, and dark.

TIP We recommend choosing your adventurer’s role as a Defender. This will limit your damage output, but you’ll have more control over the battlefield and ensure your teammates survive longer.

You can have a total of 6 characters in your team. One is you, and you can fill the remaining 5 roles with 2 battle partners, 2 assist partners, and 1 monster partner. While fighting, you’ll only see yourself and your chosen battle partners, but you’ll benefit from the bonuses and strategies provided by each member of your team.

If you’ve taken on the Defender role, we recommend choosing DPS chars as battle partners. Focus on debuff abilities for your assist partners. And monster partners will only provide passive bonuses that are effective during combat; choose according to your team’s needs.

What Should You Focus on for Fast Progression?

Focusing on the main story is the best thing you can do in the beginning. The main story is divided into multiple chapters, and by the time chapter 5 is complete, almost every mechanic and mode in the game will be unlocked. Therefore, your goal should be to complete chapters 1-5 as quickly as possible. To do this:

  • Focus on quickly finishing the stages in each chapter. The enemies in these stages are usually related to the Wind, Dark, and Water, and you can beat them faster with a team setup that corresponds to these elements.
  • When your stamina runs out, don’t replenish it using your mushrooms. These mushrooms will be much more useful in later stages: don’t use them up too early.
  • Participate in every active event. Almost all of them provide plenty of gold and XP and contain relatively simple tasks to complete.
  • Build a balanced team. For the first 5 chapters, a team consisting of heroes you can obtain completely free of charge might look like this:
NAME ROLE
Cleric Tank
Ethan DPS
Remi Off Tank
Sion Support
Soul DPS

Combat System Fundamentals

Each stage requires you to fight a certain number of enemies, and to do this as efficiently as possible, you need to learn how the combat system works. It’s a turn-based system, but designed to create fluid combos, not speed-based attacks, meaning you decide who attacks when and how. The system works simply like this:

  • Each basic attack you successfully complete gives you SP.
  • Once you’ve collected enough SP, you can use your abilities.
  • Each ability you use fills your overdrive bar. When this bar is full, you can use your ultimate skills.
  • While overdrive is active, you can deal much more damage by performing chain-attacks with your teammates.

So, your main goal in every battle should be to activate overdrive, but this mostly happens when fighting bosses. (Other enemies die from basic attacks, i.e., long before the overdrive bar fills.) As you can imagine, choosing characters whose chain attacks can create synergy with each other when building your team will give you much more effective results.

Strengthening Your Characters and Obtaining New Ones

You can use memory pieces to strengthen your characters, which provide the most powerful results. However, each piece is specific to a particular role, meaning you can only use them for certain chars. In addition, you can upgrade your heroes’ skills and/or give them equipment with rarity up to SSR.

To obtain new characters, a gacha system is used. You can add new heroes to your team by summoning, but the chance of obtaining a powerful 3-star hero is only 2%. However, after 100 summons, you are guaranteed to obtain a 3-star character.
