What Are Fantomons in Sword x Staff?

Fantomons are pets that unlock at account level 50 through the large tree at your home base. They do two jobs at once. Every Fantomon you own feeds passive stats into your character, and the one you take into combat fights alongside you with its own skills.

The system runs deeper than simple stat sticks. Once you evolve a Fantomon and unlock Materialization, it gains active battle skills that can shift how a whole fight plays out. Pandarial

Pandarial is arguably the most valuable pet in the game right now. Its assist skill Ink Burst cuts the cooldown of every Technique by one turn at the start of battle and grants a damage boost that lasts the whole fight. If your build leans on a key Technique that normally sits behind an opening cooldown, this single effect can reshape your entire first few turns.

After Materialization it picks up even more range. Verdant Spikes applies Fragility to enemies while Emerald Dew heals nearby allies at the start of its turn, giving one pet damage support, debuffing, and healing at the same time. It joined the Summon Crystal exchange on August 18, 2026.

Nyxarchon

Nyxarchon is the safest offensive investment available. Its Requiem Blast triggers after damaging Techniques, dealing Dark damage to a target plus enemies within two grids while applying a 10% Defense Reduction stack. That stacks up to three times for 30% total Defense Reduction, and large targets can take multiple hits.

What makes this so strong is that Defense Reduction does not just boost the pet’s own damage. It amplifies every attack your character and allies land afterward, which is why Conqueror, Dominator, and Archmage builds all rate it as a top pick.

Aegiswing

Aegiswing is the premier defensive Fantomon. Radiant Sanctuary grants Guardian Angel for three turns at the start of battle, and when that effect ends your character restores 50% of lost HP and gains Power Unsealed for the rest of the fight.

Materialization adds more Taunt access, Retribution damage, and reduced damage taken from Taunted enemies. If your problem is dying rather than failing a damage check, this is the direct fix, and it pairs naturally with Guardian and other tank setups.

Kels

Kels is one of the biggest winners of Season 2 and cannot be pulled from the tree at all. It is only available through the Arena shop, so watch your arena currency. Purging Spell deals Water damage after a damaging Technique and strips one random enemy buff. After Materialization, Water Drill adds a 50% base chance to cut enemy Defense by 20% for two turns.

That combination of dispel plus defense shred in one slot makes it genuinely valuable, and it is especially useful against bosses that buff their own dodge rate.

Zeioletus

Zeioletus is the strongest area damage pet outside of the Mythics. Lotus Step follows damaging Techniques with Light area damage, launches nearby enemies airborne, and deals 20% extra damage against large targets. It is excellent for wave clearing and general progression, and its Materialized form pushes those mob clearing numbers even higher.

Sylvarie

Sylvaerie takes a simpler approach, with Wind Embrace boosting Attack and Speed after your turn. That sounds plain next to flashier options, but on a well geared character those buffs can actually outperform Zeioletus’s direct damage since they scale with your own stats. It is also available for just 18 Summon Crystals, making it the cheapest strong pickup in the shop.

Terragon

Terragon focuses on blunting enemy offense. Sandstone Shot follows damaging Techniques with Physical damage and carries a 50% base chance to reduce enemy Attack by 25%, with Materialization adding a further damage reduction effect. It matters little in easy farming but becomes genuinely valuable in Guild Boss fights where a single boss threatens your whole team.

B Tier Fantomons

Armopi

Armopi builds Defense Up stacks and converts three of them into a Defense based shield, with Materialization adding another shield for the owner. It is excellent during early Knight progression, though most players transition to Aegiswing once it is built.

Chomusuke

Chomusuke enables an extra Physical area attack after a damaging Technique with a 50% chance to reduce enemy Defense by 15%. Its Epic rarity caps its long term stat value, but the defense shred keeps it viable as a budget support option.

Mandragora

Mandragora heals one target whenever you use a Technique on allies, and since it is not capped per turn it performs well above its tier for dedicated healing Sage builds. Its Materialized form is not worth chasing, so most players skip evolving it.

Herbote

Herbote restores HP when you start a turn below 80% HP, with a 50% chance to cleanse a status ailment or debuff. Unevolved it loses to Mandragora on raw healing, but Materialization lets it heal allies too and adds a random stat buff.

Boaro

Boaro grants a Defense based shield every time you lose a cumulative 15% of Max HP, up to five times per battle. Useful for early Knight survivability and Shield Counter builds, though its Materialized form adds little.

Falko

The critical detail most players miss is that evolution requires a duplicate copy of the same Mythic. If Materialization is your goal, budget for two copies rather than one, otherwise you will hit a wall at level 108 with nothing to show for it.

How Fantomon Deployment Works

You get four deployment slots, but every Fantomon you own contributes stats regardless of whether it is deployed.

Here is the part that trips up new players. Your main stat slot and your combat Fantomon are two separate decisions. The pet giving you 100% passive stats is not automatically the one fighting beside you, so pick your combat pet based on the encounter rather than rarity.

Fantomon – Leveling, Resonance, and Aptitude

Fantomons level using Basic Treats, which come from Idle Cart rewards, the Daily Cart Shop with Rolla, and Guild Shop plants and animals.

Resonance is the mechanic that shapes your entire investment strategy. The lowest level among your four deployed Fantomons becomes the resonance level applied across your whole collection. If all four deployed pets sit at level 108, every other Fantomon you own is treated as level 108 too. This means spreading levels evenly across your four deployed pets beats dumping everything into one favourite.

Aptitude works like a skill tree that boosts an individual Fantomon’s stats along with your own. Materials for it are limited, so only invest in your four deployed pets. The good news is that Aptitude can be reset if you later switch your lineup, so committing is less risky than it sounds.

Fantomon – Evolution and Materialization Explained

Evolution unlocks a Fantomon’s Materialization form, which gives it active battle skills. To evolve, you need to reach level 108, unlock Nimbuville, and have the Fantomon at Mythic rarity, which requires that duplicate copy mentioned earlier.

In combat, energy rings around your Fantomon’s icon fill up over time. Once full, the pet materializes into its evolved form. If it faints, that energy resets completely.

The skill split matters here. While unmaterialized, only Assist Skills are active. Once materialized, only Battle Skills work until the Fantomon faints and drops back into assist form. Planning around that switch is part of getting real value from an evolved pet.
